We used to pay $65 every 4 weeks for 1700 sf house, no kids, no pets. After the baby came along and we moved, we starting paying $75 for 2350 sf.
Problem is, with the baby we spend far more time at home than before, and also one grandma visits often to help. Therefore, we need more cleaning, so now we go for every other week. I thought they’d give me break in the price for the higher frequency, but no luck. I often round up the pay to $80 anyways.
It’s a cleaning crew, they’re usually 4 people, although sometimes 5 of them show up. It takes them between 60 and 80 minutes. But I have to be observant… they may miss a spot occasionally. One of the is the crew leader, and I suspect he gets a bigger cut, but I’m not sure.

Cat, your post is very funny. I always think that tidying and cleaning are different things. Tidying up is just putting my junk away: mail, books, clothes, etc., so that the cleaners can actually clean. Cleaning entails washing, dusting, scrubbing, applying windex to windows.
I also think that the forced tidying is a good thing… or at least I try to convince myself of that! Did you hear what Heather Mills said? She’s the gold digger who married and divorced Paul McCartney, one of the many things she hated about Paul was that he liked to tidy up before the cleaners came.
She didn’t see the distinction between tidying and cleaning either…

April 4, 2010 at 10:51 AM #535376NicoleParticipantWe have an excellent housekeeper. We pay her and her husband $80 for 2 hours of work every 2 weeks. We have 2300 sq feet. We paid $100 for the first pass. She does the surfaces, floors of all rooms and deep cleaning in the bathrooms and kitchen. If we want something more ie windows, baseboards, I ask her to name her price.
I agree the money is totally worth it to spend more time with my kiddo.
BTW- to the guys making comments about their wives/housekeepers, i hope your wife sleeps with the poolboy π after her hard day’s work, she desires it.
