$14/hr = $98 for basically a whole day, minus gas expenses, minus supplies if any, minus taxes. Give her the raise and be happy she’s only asking for $14.
June 25, 2015 at 10:47 PM #787526bewilderingParticipant$80 for around 2000 sqft every two weeks. I’m happy with how she cleans our house. Are you happy with the results? I you are happy then i think you are getting good deal at $14.
June 26, 2015 at 5:57 AM #787534svelteParticipant$100 every two weeks, takes 3-4 hours. 3000 sf.
We’ve used her for probably a decade. Never anything questionable – no broken items, nothing missed, nothing missing, very thorough.
We’ve got a house that is shall we say unusual…never any questions asked. It all gets cleaned. Sometimes I’d like to see her reaction to the various rooms though…not for the prudish or faint-hearted.

June 26, 2015 at 7:36 AM #787539skerzzParticipant$100 for 2100 sqft once a week. She spends 4 hours at the house. My wife set this up through handy which is a cleaning “broker” service. I had a feeling I was overpaying…. Can anyone recommend a good/trusted cleaner in the North County Area (or someone willing to commute to work there)? I’m sure I could cut out the middle man (handy) to save some money and have the same amount (or more) of the money going to the person actually doing the work.
June 26, 2015 at 8:42 AM #787541t0rkParticipant$55 once a week. 1500 sqft.
She is here about 2-3 hours and does an excellent job and we trust her. We really value the trust. My wife’s mother uses her bi-weekly for 5+ years.
skerzz, we live in San Marcos and most her work is in North County. I’d be happy to pass along her info.June 26, 2015 at 9:18 AM #787544skerzzParticipant[quote=t0rk]$55 once a week. 1500 sqft.

June 26, 2015 at 6:48 PM #787574joecParticipantI must be the only poor joe who doesn’t use a house cleaner…
I suppose that’s the reason for my messy place.
June 26, 2015 at 8:57 PM #787578AnonymousGuestAccording to my Mexican contacts, $100 per day is pretty much the going rate for house cleaning. This is from free-lance workers who are generally not authorized to work in the U.S. So sounds like your cleaner is just trying to “keep up with the Joneses”

What the heck is going on there in svelte lair?
Years ago we had someone at 160 a,day. Good, but too much. We clean ourselves. It’s good exercise.

My have always thought the going rate for these type of work is about $100 per day. If the husband is a day laborer and the wife is a house cleaner, that’s $200 per day x 20 days a month, so $4000 per month. given cost of living in SD, it would be hard to justify anything less.
That said, I’m with scaredy, we do it ourselves, and I pay my wife in purses.
June 27, 2015 at 11:18 AM #787597spdrunParticipantIt’s not even $4000 per month unless you’re paying for her gas, supplies, car expenses, etc. Give her the raise and a nice bonus for the holiday(s).
June 27, 2015 at 10:19 PM #787615bobbyParticipantI do my own cleaning. Put on the pair of headphone and with Marketplace, freakonomics or planet money (wonderful programs from NPR) and the hour just goes by in a jiffy.
Why does it take 8 hours to clean the house and why does it requires cleaning every 2 weeks.

$100 for 3 to 4 hours of cleaning? If you don’t mind me asking, what does the cleaning involve other than dusting, vacuuming etc… ?
And why does it take so long if it is done every two weeks? -
