It doesn’t matter — you go back to the hotel to sleep, with a fan blowing on you and windows open. Actually, I just stayed in a hotel in Montreal with no A/C. No real big deal.
I actually don’t like to sleep with an A/C running. The temperature gradient from the air blowing tends to give me a sore neck and headache.

It’s 89 indoors here (10PM in 4S ranch), but somehow that doesn’t seem to bother us much. I never had it growing up in San Diego, and I don’t really like it. If I did have it, I’d probably set it for about 82F or so.
However, if it hits 69F, I definitely turn on the heater. π
August 16, 2015 at 10:27 PM #788704anParticipantI’ve been enjoying my AC the last couple of days set at 72 degrees and loving it. AC + solar rocks. No longer have to worry about setting my AC at 72. I tried setting it at 78 for a short period today but was miserable, so I lowered it back to 72 shortly after.
August 17, 2015 at 3:12 AM #788708moneymakerParticipantYeah solar and AC go together well, no wonder so many AC companies are now installing solar. I would definitely feel more guilty running the AC if I didn’t have the solar.

Amen to that! We keep our thermostat at 71; otherwise, it feels like we’re going to suffocate. As others have mentioned, A/C is necessary to dry things out as well as cool things down. Humidity is the worst, and it always feels humid around here.
We went for many years without A/C and used to drive all around the county on hot days just so we could be in the air conditioned car. This gave us lots of time to look at houses during the bubble. π

+1August 17, 2015 at 12:14 PM #788717LAAFTERHOURSParticipantInstalled a quiet cool whole house fan about 10 days ago and its been great in the evenings for sleeping, especially the last three nights when it got down to maybe 75 by bedtime for the kids.
August 17, 2015 at 4:14 PM #788718no_such_realityParticipantBeing back from the last three days in Phoenix at 115 in the shade, frankly, while it’s cooler here, it really isn’t any more comfortable today than Phoenix.
This morning, it was 94 at 6AM, an completely comfortable outside in cargo shorts and light shirt in Phoenix. Only in the late afternoon does it get very unbearable and once the sun goes down, even though it’ll still be 105 it’s actually quit comfortable.
The weekend heat there really felt about as bad as mid-90s in inland OC.
In either place, working outside in direct sunlight post noon is extremely uncomfortable.
August 18, 2015 at 2:01 PM #788730FlyerInHiGuestI’m also back in San Diego after a few days in Vegas.
Funny thing in Vegas, is that my condo never gets hotter than 85F even with AC off. The hallways are cool and I have good insulation from the neighbors.Weather doesn’t bother me much as long as there is sunshine and good AC. spdrun seems to love the 4 seasons, but I’d rather have 4 seasons in San Diego, or Italy, Southern France, or Spain. The winter in NYC City would be doable if you had a nice, airy, and light-filled apartment. But most apartments in NYC are dark and dreadful.
September 9, 2015 at 11:35 AM #789215FlyerInHiGuestMan it’s Las Vegas in San Diego today.
September 9, 2015 at 11:45 AM #789218poorgradstudentParticipantHow hot is it?
It’s so hot, chickens are laying hard boiled eggs!
It’s so hot, even hipsters are shaving their beards and taking off their scarves!
It’s so hot, even the weather doesn’t want to be outside!
… I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your waitress.
September 9, 2015 at 1:06 PM #789219plmParticipantI can finally laugh about the hot weather again. Got my A/C working yesterday!
September 9, 2015 at 3:42 PM #789220The-ShovelerParticipantYou know it’s hot when your feet get burned on the sand running to the wet part of the beach.
Ouch! LOL.
September 10, 2015 at 9:19 PM #789271mixxalotParticipantIt’s been wicked hot 91 past few days here in Point Loma! I bought portable AC unit with dehumidifier since it’s super humid as well. So now much better. I’m wondering how much more of this insane heat we will get until things cool off.
