Participant75F is comfortable in summer clothes. The answer is that I’d prefer to live in a climate where I can be outside most of the year. In winter, you can put on more clothes. In summer when it’s 115F out, you can’t do a damn thing about it.

GuestWithout any climate control, or other modernities, a tropical climate is best. Good year round weather and you have all kinds of fruits and veggies to eat.

ParticipantSet the Ac on 80F today, no one suffered, it’s 80F outside now and falling and all the windows are opened. This is a zero, once, or twice a year occurrence. Even without AC there are plenty of ways to deal with it. We have it very good.

ParticipantNormal Heights here…
We broke down and turned the a/c unit on. First time we’ve run it longer than an hour since we got it last autumn. We bought it because we wanted to have it for when the baby came, just in case. Lol, baby doesn’t really need it.
We were down in Ensenada today….walking around was brutal. Sweat dripping lol.
We would melt in Vegas! I miss snow…

ParticipantIt was 85 at my San bern mountain cabin yesterday for a couple hours. That was almost miserable. Granted, the flat landers we’re dealing with 105 degree temps, so can’t complain too much.

ParticipantKind of cold in and out of the pool. 104.

ParticipantVery comfortable in Ocean Beach right now. There’s a bit of a sea breeze bring in cool ocean air and the not unpleasant fragrance of cannabis.
No A/C for me, but may have to crack open a beer or stumble down the hill to the ocean.

LOL . . . bibs . . . good you don’t have to scare up a parking space!
Near bayfront here, but warm and getting hotter. Only able to work outside after 6 pm. No AC … all windows open and three fans running is okay for now and okay for sleeping.
I’m going to get out of here to do some errands under A/C :=]

GuestDoes anyone remember a time when AC was deemed unnecessary in San Diego? The old houses in La Jolla didn’t have AC. But now, people who pay a couple millions will install AC.
Along the coast I find that, without AC, clothing, bedding, carpet, get damp and sticky. That why I love my smart thermostat with “cool to dry” feature. Come on, controlling nature is what makes us humans so smart!

ParticipantI’d rather be happy and in harmony with nature than smart. Intelligence is overrated.

ParticipantI don’t have central AC in my house. It doesn’t get that bad except one room, which I room AC …. Though after this summer I’m tempted to get central AC installed. I think I’ll need a 5 ton system, which will be around $4000, give or take…Then while I’m at it, I probably should get solar (too late maybe).

[/quote]In some San Diego neighborhoods it gets pretty hot, places like RB and San Carlos. I doubt many homes there were built without AC.
Most people on the coast don’t have AC because it’s unnecessary there.

ParticipantDel Mar beach was around 89 today.
Agree most coastal communities did not have AC when my wife and I were growing up in LJ, but many of us have installed it since. Even though we don’t use it much at our house in RSF–we do enjoy having it for the few times a year we may need it–especially when it’s hot and humid.

Have you ever wondered what the cost per use is?
