Actually the last three comments have all had excellent points. Though I agree with FLU most of all.
Either way the future looks grim but all of us here sound like we know how to bend with the breeze.
One of my best friends (who is brillant even among engineers) took the IT Detour. During the boon days he made millions of dollars (which he mostly spent on wine and racing cars). He tried many times to get me into DBA’ing Oracle. He was in the Bio-tech field and thier junior DBA’s make more than seniors in my field do. I have wondered many times what my life would be like in the IT world. But like I said C’est le Vie!
There was a Pimp in my nieghborhood in Las Vegas when I was growing up. He did very well and never was in trouble. Hmmmmm… I wonder how I would look in a purple velor hat….
π Oink Oink my people…

[/quote]Given that I haven’t invested a dime in either real estate or the stock market, the future looks great to me! My dollars are worth more every single day.
I also work in higher ed, which is pretty much disconnected from the economy. I make the same regardless of whether its a bull or a bear market.
Edit: I’ll add that if you are an older IT worker, University and Government is a great place to work. The pace is slower and less competitive and the benefits are great. The pay isn’t always the best, but I have a feeling in a year or so its going to be pretty competitive with the private sector.

It was meant to be funny and I’m glad someone enjoyed it. We all have our sensitive spots and pet peeves. I’ve enjoyed listening to all yours. The truth is whatever you or anyone else call you it doesnt matter as long as you are happy with your station in life.
