GuestOr perhaps they weren’t slow, but instead the fire was very fast. So fast that as of last night the government was not planning to send them to San Diego County, but instead to other, larger fires.

ParticipantThose fire tankers don’t fly at night for safety reasons, and they aren’t much help in 40 mph winds either. Its not like the fire dept as a whole sat around wondering what to do. Sometimes Mother Nature is just too powerful to be stopped.

ParticipantNBC reports some areas/fires are waiting for winds to calm before air drops begin because of dangerous downdrafts due to topography and high winds.
Also, damage estimates as of now already exceed Cedar fire.

ParticipantI’ve heard about Solana beach be asked to be ready to evacuate.
Some evac notices seem to be a little on the vague side.
(From 5 to 15, from 56 78) That’s huge.Better safe than sorry I guess.
KUSI is holding up a Thomas guide and pointing out where the
fires are, which seems to be the most definitive info that’s available on TV. (Anyone know of anything better?)Best of luck to all.
