I know in our case – we’re listed as being in the “fire zone” because of the canyon behind the houses on the other side of the street. The issue is that we’re less than 300 feet from the edge of that canyon to our closest property line.
We have AAA insurance – and were told we would not be taken as new customers because of it. But we can continue.

April 14, 2011 at 11:36 AM #687943teacherSDParticipantWe were in escrow on a house in December and were prepared to go with a policy from Travelers. I would have preferred AAA but they wouldn’t insure us because of the fire risk (next to brush).
We backed out of the escrow because of a leak issue. The roof was fixed and we closed on the house in February. However, Travelers changed their requirements January 1st and they would not insure us anymore.
We eventually went with Farmers, mostly because no one else would insure the house.
