The pool is beautiful there. Let the HOA clean it. I hate dealing with my pool. Actually, now I remember making an offer on a perfect Meadowview house. On the meadow. Bid a little too low. Was so sad. Should’ve come in stronger. Then I’d be in Meadowview right now!!!
Wine country is OK but I prefer Meadowview.
The ‘Y’ uses a ‘robot’ to clean their pools. I saw them place it after pool hours — and watched it work. It looked like it had more ‘smarts’ than the typical automatic pool cleaner. It didn’t stay at the bottom of the pool.Add the cleaner and solar to handle the pool pump bills and you should be fairly good. If you want, you can add an automatic chlorinators/pH balancing system.
I don’t think there will be much of a problem with interracial couples on the West Coast. There was a lot of mixing occurring on the west coast during the ’60s, so the entire area from Mexican border to the Canadian border on the west coast is safe. There may be some inland areas in California, Oregon and Washington that may see fewer interracial couples, but not enough to cause problems. Even Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas don’t have that many issues for interracial couples. I would be careful with Idaho, Montana and possible Wyoming though.
I am also one of the interracial (and interpolitic) couples. I have found that issues have followed patterns and have largely died down in S.D. and the places I mentioned above.
April 5, 2016 at 5:14 PM #796462creechrrParticipantI’ve lived in Temecula since 2011 without issue. I’m of African descent (black – I hate labels) and my wife is Asian. We have two kids and haven’t had any overt or questionable circumstances regarding race. In fact, most of the kids tend to be very welcoming to my sons. In another generation or two, we may have this race thing licked…at least in SoCal.
One of the things that really stood out to me and wasn’t expecting, the level of wholesomeness and respect that the kids have here. In some cases almost to a fault.
April 5, 2016 at 6:09 PM #796464joecParticipantThere is a lot of hate with HOA’s, but if you aren’t really into doing stuff to your house, sometimes the HOA is the best thing. No cars lifted up on jacks in the street, no cars parked on the front lawn, god awful ugly color houses, etc etc etc…
In southern CA, in most places, I doubt mixed races will get much of a second look here. Of course, parents may say or have thoughts about it, but I doubt random people in the area here care much since it’s everywhere.
Being Asian, I notice for some reason tons of Asian guys/white wives…Not sure why there though.
April 5, 2016 at 6:50 PM #796465spdrunParticipantFunny. The stereotypical pairings are:
Black guy/White woman
White guy/Asian woman
Latino/AnyoneBut I guess Asian guys have to date/marry someone as well 🙂
IDK – I like the idea of cars up on jacks. I’d want to be able to work on mine without being harassed/fined by some HOA putz who needs a two-fisted ‘tude adjustment…
As far as house paint, make my neighbors’ houses road-cone orange, please!

That’s great to hear about respectful kids. And that everyone has been welcoming. Thanks for the feedback 🙂

Good point about HOA benefits. We would probably not be affected by the rules all that much.
And I generally agree about the mixed races not getting a second look. I just wanted opinions from the area. And it seems pretty unanimous that I do not need to be concerned.
April 7, 2016 at 12:20 AM #796515temeculaguyParticipantI know many residents of Meadowview, one is an original, in fact I went to a wedding 22 years ago at the clubhouse. I’m going golfing with 2 of them this weekend, including the guy who got married there. I’ll ask them about the HOA, but these are not casual friends, they are the type I talk to weekly and vacation with, I’ve never heard one complaint about the HOA from them so far, but I’ll ask. I mirror what many said, if you want a moderate amount of land without being too far out of town, meadowview is an excellent choice. Also Santiago Estates and Los Ranchitos are similar in the fact that are in town, all customs and on land.
As far as kids to play with in walking distance, it will be a bot hit and miss because of the high prices compared to tract homes, the age of the homes and the distance between homes. My friends that live there all empty nesters or grandparents. But they did raise their children there and liked it for kids at the time.
Interracial couple? I’ve been living with the same woman for 4 years here in Temecula and am marrying her this summer. I’m white and she’s Mexican. I never thought about being an interracial couple, so that should be an answer all by itself as to how it is to be one here, I’ve never encountered anything to the point I don’t even realize it. It is such a non issue I had to think about it and inventory our friends and neighbors in town. I think it’s close to 50% would qualify as interracial, never heard one mention of them complaining about being treated any different and I would think they would say something, even if just to vent, because we are in the same boat.
As far as your kids are concerned, I wouldn’t worry. Racism still exists everywhere to some extent but kids today or maybe it’s just kids here seem to not even take it into account. You’ll see groups of kids around here not divided by race, my kids hung out with kids from all different races. Mine are grown but their roommates at college that they chose are of different races and they never even think enough of it to mention it. I’m assuming their environment played a part in their color blindness.
Your kids sounds typical for the valley and coincidentally one of the valley’s favorite sons has a similar genetic make-up. It’s fitting because the Master’s starts tomorrow. Rickie Yutaka Fowler, the #5 golfer in the world was raised in this valley, just a few miles from meadowview and is white, asian and native american mixed. He’s a celebrity most places, but especially here in his hometown (he went to murrieta high). Maybe you should get your kids golf lessons perhaps they have a genetic advantage, was that racist of me to say? I wish I was more genetically similar to Rickie since I am golfing this this weekend.
April 7, 2016 at 7:21 AM #796518scaredyclassicParticipantOh right. I forgot about Los ranchitos and Santiago Estates. Those are nice also.
Definitely worth checking those out too.

Thank you for your thorough response! I will check out the similar areas you mentioned. It’s good to know that you haven’t heard any complaints about the HOA there.
And I am loving the unanimous vote that Temecula is diverse and my daughter will be in good company. It’s not something I thought about too much before having kids, but now I am definitely looking for an area where there’s a good amount of diversity while still having a more calm pace of life. I grew up on the coast and it just seems too packed with people. They tear down one home and build three on the lot. I am not a fan of that.
Good point that the tract homes will likely have more kids. If we found the right community, I am not opposed to that either. We just saw Meadowview and really felt at home.
And your golf comment made me laugh 🙂

Looks like you got your answer, but as HOA’s go Meadowview HOA is not that restrictive. You get alot of benefits for pretty low HOA cost. I’ve been a resident for over 8 years and am a realtor, so if you still have any area questions or anything about Meadowview feel free to ask!
February 24, 2017 at 2:10 PM #805733spdrunParticipantLooks like this interesting thread got re-opened by a spammer. I wonder about Oregon — weren’t they historically racist to the point of having a law prohibiting Blacks from settling or buying land? This went on till the 20s or 30s.

Actually it was a bit worse than that. Until 1967 laws against interracial marriage existed – as well as co-mingling of races (damn those miscegenated people https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3eTSbC3neA;t=1m20s ). 1967 US Supreme Court ruled Loving v Virginia – anti-miscegenation laws are unconstitutional.Supreme Court of California ruled against bans on interracial marriages in 1948.
February 24, 2017 at 11:06 PM #805736spdrunParticipantI know about the 1967 decision, in fact, it’s a very personal issue to me.
A work colleague got off about how Supreme Court shouldn’t make law, and I gave him a bit of a speech recently.
February 25, 2017 at 12:11 AM #805737tnuomarapParticipantI’m considering moving to Inglewood (LA area) – does anyone know if that is a diverse area?
Also, Temecula *used* to be conservative. The city just voted to raise it’s sales tax to 9% – higher than San Francisco.
