Has anyone actually used Redfin to purchase a home? Interested to hear what your experience was

Using redfin to view but not buy while you have a realtor is stupid. If your realtor doesn’t want to show you a property, find another realtor. If a realtor is trying to sell you a property, move on.

Heck, my realtor gets me to not buy the property because he points out the faults so I don’t get suckered (I am looking in the lower end). Find yourself a good realtor and you don’t have the problems you are referring to.

Just don’t waste someone’s time that you will never purchase a house from. While many do not have high opinons of realtors (I admit, I fall into that category for 90% of them, but they are still human and are trying to make a living)

This is similar to the financial industry and the options that investors have. It took quite a while for discount brokerages, no load/low fee mutual funds & annuities, and fee based brokers to become mainstream. It’s only a matter of time for real estate

Even though I will buy a house using my realtor, I always felt bit bad for him showing us all the houses that we will NOT buy. He doesn’t have the certainty that we WILL buy a house at all, or stay with him. I think realtors should be paid for those hours too, I mean before you buy also. That will reduce the number of flakes and looky-loos, too, I am sure.

Perhaps a better would be a initial flat rate covering X hours, and then hourly based fee after that. And then, if you close a deal deduct those fees or a part of them (like a deposit) from the commission.
