I am deciding between replacing my iphone 6 with either an iphone 6S+, an iPhone 7+, a pixel, a 6P, or a oneplus 3.
I used to be an iphone fan but I do not like all the changes to the music app, which I use a lot. Adblock also works badly with iOS. Now Apple has even disabled the 5-star rating system I have been using since I got an ipod back in 2003! It is still in itunes, but you can no longer rate songs from an iOS device. And with every update they push their stupid streaming service on you harder and harder and disable more of the great old Steve Jobs era functions. Lack of headphone jack is also crazy.
I actually got an old ipod touch with ios 6, NIB from ebay but like 5 years old, so I could have an iOS device with the music app I like for the gym and car.
With Android I do not like the high samsung prices or its bloatware, which is mostly absent on the three android phones I am considering.
Pixel seems really cool, but the price is pretty high. 6P has the same screen and is almost as fast and hundreds less.
Leaning toward a 6S+ and Nexus 6P at this point.

October 23, 2016 at 3:17 PM #802558spdrunParticipantGot a Sony M4 Aqua for $150+tax at B&H Camera. Unlocked phone, easily rootable, waterproof, similar specs to an iPhone 7 other than lack of a fingerprint sensor and inclusion of a headphone jack.
Only problem (minor in my experience) is lack of VoLTE so it downswitches to HSDPA+ during phone calls.
October 23, 2016 at 3:23 PM #802559HatfieldParticipantIf you have Macs, it’s pretty hard to beat the integration between iOS and macOS worlds. I was pissed about the lack of a headphone jack in the iPhone 7, but wanted to upgrade from my 3 year old 5S. I went with a 6S right after they lowered the price $200 and so far I’ve been pretty happy with it.
If you have PCs, I think the iPhone is becoming increasingly less compelling. Unfortunately Google has given up on “don’t be evil” and is getting creepier and creepier with their spying^h^h^h^h targeted advertising.
October 23, 2016 at 3:29 PM #802560spdrunParticipantProblem is that Apple has become pretty whiney about “nudging” you to use their services as well.
Android is usable without much of the Google integration.
October 23, 2016 at 4:00 PM #802561HatfieldParticipantJust curious: which Apple services are you referring to?
October 23, 2016 at 5:08 PM #802563exsdgalParticipantGlad to read favorable Pixel reviews.
Have had my current Nexus for quite a few years, and had planned to buy the next model release as the upgrade phone. It turned out to be the Pixel, especially with the Really Blue invite. I have loved and stayed with Nexus series to avoid carrier/manufacturer related add-ons, and I hope Pixel carries that Nexus tradition.
October 24, 2016 at 10:47 AM #802575spdrunParticipantHatfield: Apple cloud storage vs local storage. Apple is also nudging app makers to use Apple’s Clownkit infrastructure.
It’s much easier to go cloudfree on a device that uses standards for USB synchronization and has an SD card slot.
October 24, 2016 at 11:31 AM #802579HatfieldParticipantThe cloud storage part isn’t what bothers me, it’s having the provider peek at the contents and direct advertising at you based on what it sees. That’s creepy AF. I’ve seen no evidence that Apple is doing this. This is how Google makes its money.
October 24, 2016 at 12:24 PM #802583spdrunParticipantBut you can get “neutered” ROMs for Android devices. No such luck with Apple.
October 24, 2016 at 6:57 PM #802602HatfieldParticipantRight, but in the process you lose all the integration.
Like I said, I like stuff being synched via the “cloud.” I just don’t like the contents thereof being spied upon for the purposes of generating ads. And using a rooted Android comes with its own set of risks.
October 24, 2016 at 7:33 PM #802605spdrunParticipantI’d like stuff being “stunk” via the “clown.” Directly. Not saved on Crapple’s, Scroogle’s, or M$’s servers.
October 25, 2016 at 11:51 PM #802651gzzParticipantGoing with a used Nexus 6P. All the people who want the latest no bloatware Android are selling their 6Ps cheap for new Pixels and they are at most 12 months old.
I would have went with Pixel XL if my preferred color/size were in stock and they still were running the free gear VR headset with purchase promo. That is worth 79 and I would want one, but the promo ended 2 weeks ago.
October 28, 2016 at 1:18 PM #802731gzzParticipantNexus 6p is great so far. I got lucky the used seller did not dump a lemon on me. He had the android 7.1 beta on it, and it has run flawlessly.
The screen size and ease of typing really beat my old iPhone 6. Android does predictive typing much better, plus the keys are bigger. It is all around faster too.
Yet another improvement is the bass on the phone speaker is better and voices sound more natural.
I need a good pop3 email client. The iOS built in client was pretty good compared to the one I downloaded already. I am a dino who is not ready to go with something more modern. I like to have a huge local archive of my past emails.
