1, low shipping and handling offsets a little bit of the cost
2. collectible, and gold bugs are sometimes into that.
3. the premium isn’t really that high.
4. at least it’s gold, not paper…May 28, 2009 at 11:15 PM #407283scaredyclassicParticipant1, low shipping and handling offsets a little bit of the cost

[/quote]Flu, I think it’s awesome that you are keeping an eye out on things like this for your kid. I agree with Paramount that gold will be touching $1500 by the end of the year (next spring at the latest), so I think this beauty is something you should get. Long term, gold is going MUCH higher than $1500, so I wouldn’t sweat the premium. But if you REALLY want to pass along a gorgeous investment to your child, consider the Austrian Philharmonic. It is, IMO, the most beautiful and elegant bullion in production.

You mean this?
http://goldcoins.org/gold-philharmonic.htmSigh…I wish I started thinking about this when gold was $400/ounce a few years ago…Somehow between my stamp collection and my relative’s wine collection, we never talked about gold coins.
My kid is too young to appreciate this right now, but I’m hoping to stockpile various things for my kid’s future (just in case π )
Dumb question. A lot of emphasis is placed on gold. What about platinum?
I know this probably has been covered before…But can anyone recommend a reputable local SD coin dealer? I know there are some who recommended some mail-order/internet places, but I’d like to look-see-touch first.
