ParticipantSvelte, your good fortune with American iron is better than most. I was a car wholesaler back in the late eighties and nineties. I had hundreds and hundreds of cars sift thru my hands. The build quality of american cars during that period was pathetic!
They are closer to japanese and european quality now, but in this auto enthusiast’s opinion they aren’t there yet.
Because of my first hand experiences back then I swore that I’d never buy an american made car for myself, especially a GM.
Fast forward 20 years and my wife fell in love with the Cadillac XLR, so I gave in and just bought a used 2005. Now you’d think that GM’s flagship car (75 grand new) from their flagship car division would showcase there quality right?
We’ve owned the car for about 2 months and it has been back to the dealer 4 times with a laundry list of problems.
I rotate cars more often than a lot of people shower, and over the last 10 years I have not had this many problems with all of my Japanese/German cars…………….COMBINED!
GM outta be ashamed of themselves!

toyota will have a plug in hybrid out. they want the LI-ION battery

ParticipantMurf2222, that’s not fair. You bought a used car, and we simply have no idea what kind of abuse the car received in its first 3 years of life.
I bought an brand new ’01 Mustang V6, a few weeks after 9/11. The car has never broke down, and drives as good as when it was new. If anything, the transmission got softer and more responisve with use. I have only 55K miles on it, and I’ll probably keep it for at least another 100K miles.
I bought it for peanuts, about $1.5K or $2K below sticker price, I put $500 down and had 0% APR for 5 years. I’ve been free of car payments for almost 2 years, and I like it that way.
