“I don’t think it sends the right message to today’s youth.”
What message is that? That you will be ostracized for being yourself? That consenting adults are not allowed to be with each other?
The idea of limiting who you can legally be with is sick. 50 years ago inter-racial marriages were illegal and that was stupid, and the gay marriage ban is stupid too.

May 18, 2008 at 5:13 PM #207076BKinLAParticipantThanks, Mark.
I liked Steve Lopez' take on this as well this morning:
"…As for those who argue that legalized gay unions threaten the institution and sanctity of marriage, the statistics leave no doubt that heterosexuals are perfectly capable of cheapening the vows entirely on their own.
L.A. County issues about 75,000 marriage licenses annually. In fiscal 2006-07, there were 108,554 filings countywide for dissolution, annulments and legal separations…'"

New idea for a reality show: Gay Divorce Court?
May 18, 2008 at 7:04 PM #207123CostaMesaParticipantAs an aside…
I think it’s kind of comical how the ‘nay’ people in this discussion use ‘Adam and Steve’ as the poster couple for gay marriage when the stats show pretty clearly that a very large preponderance of all same-sex marriages are female-female.
Considering how young women are incessantly told about ‘the happiest day of your life’, does this really surprise anyone that these ladies simply want to follow the dream they’ve accepted as reality?
The vast majority of gay men I know have little if any interest in marriage, except to the extent that it satisfies a political objective. Only two couples have even suggested that they’ve even talked about it.
It’s not about the guys. It’s about the little girl’s dream.
