Gas Prices….

A business associate just came back from China. He made the same observation that the air was awful to breathe. He said he was told that they’re building a coal powered factory one per week. He also said that the Chinese told him and his friends that they’re fearful that the US will elect a “weak” president, someone that cant stop the terrorists. They are also worried about US imports dropping – not a surprise. But I was interested to hear of the Chinese speak of a “weak” president. We ran out of time and I didn’t get any more details.

Also of note, he told me that the Chinese mandated that one of his business associates automatically drop their profits by 17%. And they also formally requested – I dont think there’s a choice in the matter – that another business associate of his build another factory about 200 miles away. I asked him why would they do that and he said that the government wanted a different geographic area to benefit from local employment. You’re at the mercy of the Chinese government when you do business over there.

I think this current run up in oil is due to price manipulation plain and simple. We hear all this talk about supply shortages and what not but when was the last time you couldn’t get a full tank of gas at any station in the US?
I don’t see any supply shortages that caused gas to double in price in such a short time. And have you noticed that every time oil starts to come down out comes the bad news about more shortages and up it goes again.

I remember the Soudies tried this shortage thing when Clinton was in office and he held them at bay by opening the strategic reserves every time they shorted supply resulting in very cheap fuel (Remember $1 gas in the 90’s?) and that helped boost the economy. Then they try and say that there aren’t enough refineries to keep up with demand but again, no one is being turned away at any pump in America due to high demand and short supply. Even with all the popular gas gussling SUV’s on the road this last eight years we never ran short of fuel once at the stations.
So I ask, if its always available at any gas station any where in the US then how is there a shortage?
