ParticipantTrue…the only real jobs there are in the service, retail industry or health care…otherwise, what the hell else is there to Hawaii besides tourism?? Oh yeah, maybe local government, but that has to be locked up pretty tightly by the long term locals.

ParticipantDespite this disconnect Hawaii prices have come down only 1% in the last yr. It is interesting to note how prices there have sort of flatlined indefinitely!

ParticipantI grew up on Oahu between ’77 and ’91, and as far as I could remember, home prices were always high. I moved away because only doctors, lawyers or retired military owned homes in Honolulu. Unless I wanted a 30 year schlep-job in service, construction, or government, my island home had no future for me.
Is Hawaii bubble-proof? Time will tell.
