I don’t know about that broad characterization. I have a 50 year old house with the original oak hardwood floors–I love them–other than the fact that they really need to be refinished.
I’m in the middle of a minor remodel as well: I’m replacing all the interior doors/jambs/casings and baseboards in my house and repainting everything.
The carpentry work is now done and painting is in progress.
I like a nice house as much as the next person…but then I’m paying for this remodel with CASH out of my savings account, not a HELOC or a cash out refi that is rolled into my mortgage so I’m VERY AWARE how much everything costs and have spent 6 months trying to find a contractor who wasn’t trying to retire on my job.

January 19, 2008 at 2:14 PM #138801stockstradrParticipantI’ve “refined” my upgrades “Wish List” after reading the excellent posts in this thread.
One stripper pole (or NONE) would be enough if The Wife never left town. However, at least two bedroom stripper poles are needed because sometimes she’s out of town on business.
And those two poles had better double as fireman’s quick-exit poles (from 2nd floor BR) in case The Wife returns unexpectedly.
