Do any of the places people here work at avoid hiring people with bad credit? Maybe on the application there is a question “do you have or have you ever had a liar loan”?

Usually, most companies these days will do an employee background check, and that usually requires pulling a credit file to confirm previous addresses. What sort of information is used from that credit file beyond that depends on the company.
Some companies want to make sure your financial integrity is intact, especially if you
1) work for a defense contractor requiring security clearance…
2) work for position that exposes you to customer sensitive information (such as you are a data center employee that has access to people’s real credit card numbers SSN,etc)The idea is the more you are at financial peril, there more risk your integrity will get compromised. That said, some of these concerns are probably overblown at most positions…Not every position falls into #1 and #2 above… and I wouldn’t be surprised moving forward if legislation is put in place to limit possible discrimination of employment based on financial status. Plus with a tanking economy, walking away from a home is going to be a reoccurring theme, so it’s probably not going to impact employment at positions that aren’t #1 or #2 above. If it does, I smell potential lawsuits.
Trival fact. If you do genetic testing and it uncovers health issues, insurance company cannot use those results to discriminate against you in your policy. Prez Bush signed that bill into law and CA has even more stringent requirements. I’m not a Bush supporter, but at least that was one thing that was done right.
