Freeway Noise

Im looking at some properties along the 8 freeway. Of course you get a great view but you also get a steady dose of tire roar almost all day long. We have looked at houses in the normal heights area west to mt helix to the east.
You do get more house for the money since you are dealing with the highway noise.

The house in particular we looked at was 2 blocks from the 8. From the inside you can hardly hear the highway noise with the windows closed. If you walk outside you do hear it.

For those that have dealt with the living near a the 8 (or any major highway for that matter) long term, does it wear on you?
I dont want to over look the noise factor but also dont want to make it a bigger deal than it is. The rest of the house is good except the noise.

I couldn’t live with this type of constant “white” noise (whir of rubber and roar of traffic) under any circumstances, even if it was just in my backyard but that is just me. What if it’s hot and you need to open some windows?

Recently CalTrans has been trying out new ways of shaving the surface of highways to minimize noise. I’m pretty sure that’s what they’ve been doing these past couple months along the 5 in North Country. Looks like the concrete has been shaved clean, and it feels like a smoother ride. Not sure how much it helps with noise though.
