Those calling FOX mindless are liberals. It is so nice and convenient to call something mindless that you don’t like. Pat your backs folks! Oh wait, you’re already doing it.
CNN is liberal haven as is NPR. You are going find spin everywhere. If you are going to attack one channel for political bias, please be even handed about it, if you are capable of it (see the forum on bias confirmation).
As for awards, I would like to see the political affiliation of the award panels. Lets see, hmm, I bet they are heavily liberal…
October 23, 2006 at 1:44 PM #38298PerryChaseParticipantPsychology is a big factor in real estate. It’s also a big factor in marketing. Fox is about getting people riled-up by blaming others (but never the viewers) for the perceived ills of society. Therefore you’ll never hear Fox put the blame squarely on the people who mismanaged their lives and took on those suicide loans.
For you guys on the right, don’t think that Fox is doing you a favor. Rupert Murdock is using you to make money and laughing all the way to the bank. Why do you think that Murdock in fund raising for Hillary Clinton? He needs wedge politics to keep his flock tuned-in. Single issue viewers are the easier to create programming for because you know exactly that they want to hear. Fox built its networks in the 1990s fanning the flames of the Right’s anger against Clinton. Now that Clinton is gone, viewership is declining. With another Clinton in the White House, Fox viewership is sure to skyrocket!
October 23, 2006 at 1:49 PM #38299little ladyParticipantAre we defending FOX here, or are we outraged that they would have the audacity to promote a conservative agenda by trying promote the idea that there is no housing bubble, and the worst is behind! Shame on them!
October 23, 2006 at 2:00 PM #38300PDParticipantI agree that this segment was at best poor journalism. However, this doesn’t make the whole network bad. Come on!
Has CNN been broadcasting warnings to potential home buyers? I seem to have missed that….
Fox grew out of need to give the American people access to news that was not left-wing propaganda.
October 23, 2006 at 2:10 PM #38301bgatesParticipantSure, Perry, you would never blame others for the perceived ills of society. Never a harsh word from you about Christians, Republicans, etc. And your disdain for ‘single issue voters’ is comical. You’re so complex, it must be o so difficult to figure out how to appeal to you. You’re opposed to Bush, and dislike Christians – what are the odds of finding both traits in one person? Adding to your multifaceted character, you’re a supported of the UN! Stunning! After all that, imagine my suprise to learn you speak French. That’s not stereotypical at all. And what’s this idea that viewership is declining due to Clinton being out of office? Fox News (a station I don’t even get, much less watch) is still the number one rated cable news outlet. Its ratings have dropped in the past 6 months, but I believe Bubba’s been out of office quite a bit longer.
I’d also note that the New York Times’ long list of Pulitzers includes one for covering up Stalin’s famine of the Ukraine; among their more recent high proflie pieces was one on the SWIFT program, which their public editor just admitted was a mistake to publish, since the program was completely legal, posed no harm to civil liberties, and was itself harmed by exposure in the newspaper.
October 23, 2006 at 2:25 PM #38303North County JimParticipantWhat is truly laughable about this thread is the knee-jerk reaction to the mere mention of Fox News. From BikeRider’s original post, it sounds to me like they had a panel of money managers (like the type seen on their Saturday business shows).
Unlike many of the commenters, I actually went to the Fox News web site and viewed the segment in question. It was exactly what I suspected (it was from Saturday’s broadcast of Cashin’ In). A round table discussion of housing with 6 panelists including a Fox News reporter.
End result: 3 bears, 3 bulls.
Among the bulls was Tom Adkins of RE/Max. Among the bears was the Fox News reporter (gasp!), the delectable Dagen McDowell.
For all of the posters here up in arms over Fox News’ alleged RE bullishness, have you ever watched CNBC?
October 23, 2006 at 2:32 PM #38305North County JimParticipantbgates,
I like the Walter Duranty reference.
For those scratching their heads, you may want to check this link.
October 23, 2006 at 2:35 PM #38306PerryChaseParticipantI like Christians. I dislike the evangelizing. I don’t tell people to not beleive in God and I would appreciate it if the evangelicals would stop knocking on my door. Once I told the Jehovah’s Witnesses that I didn’t speak English so they sent someone who spoke French. They even have printed materials in French. I was impressed!
Yes, I speak French as well-educated people should. 🙂 That’s why Neil Bush’s ex-wife and daughters live in Paris — to learn French (In case this does not convey well in written form, I’m saying this with good fun and humor).
October 23, 2006 at 2:55 PM #38310JESParticipantWhile we are on the topic of religion, I found an interesting link to the new Time Magazine that shows in neat graphical form the distribution of adherants by state. Facinating to see facts that I had always known but never seen represented like this. It also gives you a sense as to where the most religious people live, like Utah for example! Sorry, I forget how to post links! Perry – there’s a little white area in Idaho you may feel at home:)

October 23, 2006 at 3:32 PM #38322PerryChaseParticipantThanks for the link, JES.
I like Utah a lot. I love to go ski in Utah because the people are so nice and friendly there.
I noticed that California is more Roman Catholic. Could it be because of the Hispanic population? I was raised a Roman Catholic and what I love the most are the music and the rituals.
October 23, 2006 at 4:04 PM #38324PDParticipantThanks North County Jim! I had a good laugh about the fact that the liberals on this site were busy bashing FOX for irresponsible RE spin when in fact the spin was all from the forum poster!
October 23, 2006 at 4:15 PM #38325CardiffBaseballParticipantPerryChase, I don’t know how many evangelicals are pounding on your door, but please don’t call Jehovah’s Witness’s Christians. They are what they are, and it is certainly not Christian. Making up your own Bible, and denying essential doctrine, does not a qualify. See: Cult
Back in my military days when I was with the B-1B bomber program, the aircrafts only capability at that time was carrying 24 Nuke’s.
Jehovah knocks on the door and says “do you believe in Armageddon?”. I said with a stern voice “I work for Strategic Air Command, I am Armageddon.
Also they don’t like when you turn it around and say, why have you chosen to deny the Trinity, and deity of Christ?
October 23, 2006 at 5:11 PM #38328JESParticipantThat’s classic CardiffBaseball!
