I’ve traveled to many places in the world and the weather here is nice, but our beaches leave something to be desired. I won’t go into how San Diego County and the State of California are maintaining the City, County and State. If anyone has done any traveling, they will not argue that there’s better out there.
However, finding the place that suits you for the time in your life, for your work, family, etc is the trick. I think if we had enough global warming, I’d consider moving back East. But since I’m intolerant of the snow, I’ll be sticking around here for a while.
My friend in New Jersey was complaining about the taxes. That state is like a vampire for taxes. But driving down streets is like driving on a new road. No potholes, no sewer mains breaking. They are taxed to death, but the states uses the money properly
Sometimes I think it costs way more to live there than here and the houses aren’t exactly cheap either. I guess it’s paradise to some people that live there. They want the proximity to NYC and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Jersey shore is not so horrible. You of course have to pay to go on the beach, but it’s very clean.

Add the greater NY metropolitan area…numerous communities with deep pockets.
Yeah, you’re quite correct. I was just trying to make comparison to a similarly sized metropolitan area to San Diego when I picked Washington, DC.

I moved to Del Mar several years ago after owning homes in both Manhattan and Fairfield County, CT, and I can tell you that many wealthy and well-traveled people in those areas don’t even know that the north county coastal area exists. They spend their millions purchasing homes in Manhattan, the CT/NJ/Westchester suburbs, the Caribbean, the Hamptons, etc.
I know what you mean. I’m in the DC area right now on a visit. When I tell people I’m from San Diego, I get a blank stare of “where is San Diego?” and “I’m so sorry you live in that God foresaken place.”
I feel like laughing when people declare that San Diego real estate should be priced in gold bars because rich folks from all over the world want to live here.
San Diego is nice but weather is not everything. Plus when you’re rich you can insulate yourself very well from weather related discomfort.
