Dress code sure. But pure quality that is fit and finish, no.
My dad’s suits were crap and he paid a lot. Bad stitching compared to today.
Same with cars. Look as the precision finish today, for lower cost.November 22, 2016 at 10:44 AM #804016scaredyclassicParticipant[quote=FlyerInHi]Dress code sure. But pure quality that is fit and finish, no.

November 22, 2016 at 11:29 AM #804017FlyerInHiGuestIf Trump imposes tariffs, the factories in USA will be owned by Hong Kong and Korean companies anyway because they have the knowledge and capital to startup quick. The US brands no longer manufacture. They are mostly design and marketing houses.
My Korean friend and husband own a clothing manufacture in a huge warehouse in LA. They service US brands that need speed to market.
You think you look good. It’s all in the head…
Objectively goodlooking is the art of selecting clothes to match and enhance your body. The brand or manufacture location have no bearing. Maybe pay a style consultant. That will employ a real American citizen.November 22, 2016 at 12:20 PM #804018FlyerInHiGuestBlue America has the wealth advantage. Whatever Trump does it will only widen the disparity because he’s a coastal billionaire at heart.
The divide is economic, and it is massive. According to the Brookings analysis, the less-than-500 counties that Clinton won nationwide combined to generate 64 percent of America’s economic activity in 2015. The more-than-2,600 counties that Trump won combined to generate 36 percent of the country’s economic activity last year.

Only problem with looking at it that way is the Trump counties produced a lot more of the non discretionary items of the economy. The flyover countries can probably live just fine without an iPhone, Facebook, Netflix, or whatever else. Can the coastal regions even survive a week without the food and energy flyover counties produce. If the super markets run out of cellphone packages of chicken the progressive cities of the coast are going to go feral pretty damn quickly.
November 22, 2016 at 3:53 PM #804025FlyerInHiGuestFood and energy are commodity items sold on the world markets. It’s not like in the old days.
November 22, 2016 at 4:22 PM #804028spdrunParticipantWe could if we did as the Chinese did and started putting up nuclear power plants. Clean nuclear for life!

California has about 10% of the US population and produces nearly 20% of the agriculture. We don’t need anybody’s chicken cutlets.
We probably are not a not self sufficient for energy, but we produce more oil than many realize. With foreign imports we would not be hurting for energy.
Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming and a few other states could cease to exist and California wouldn’t even notice.
November 23, 2016 at 11:29 AM #804060FlyerInHiGuestI think california is also about 18% of the US economy.
Our agriculture is also diverse with plenty of fruit, veggies, meat, dairy, poultry and fish. Not the mono cultures so typical of the other states. They need our fruit and veggies more then we need their corn and wheat which are commodity items easily imported from Canada or Brazil.
Can we secede now?
November 29, 2016 at 11:49 AM #804140FlyerInHiGuestBG, if you want used, I think you’ll be happy with a Toyota Highlander.
In Vegas, I have a Subaru Forester that I take skiing in Utah. Less so now because of EV and hybrids, but the Subaru image is liberal Pacific Northwest. Outdoors, healthy, thin people who wear Patagonia. Is that you?

The metric-sized bolts would also be a pretty good clue.
November 30, 2016 at 9:07 PM #804177FlyerInHiGuestSo Carier is keeping 1000 jobs in Indiana. Oh, the irony, under Trump, America is becoming dirigiste France.
American right wingers love French style socialism.

Francois Fillon (French translation for Donald Trump) is on track to become president and the main challenge is Le Pen. I am reminded of the opening line to the Manifesto:
A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.Substitute communism for populism.
December 5, 2016 at 11:40 AM #804260CoronitaParticipantSo here is something interesting. I was at UCSD Thornton Hospital and two things I noticed.
1. They removed all the parking gates and parking attendants and replaced them with self service kiosk.
2. Checking into the hospital, you no longer wait a long time for a clerk to check you in. You self check in at one of the 4 computer kiosks. If you have problems, 1 person is there overseeing all the kiosks.
Yup, automation replaced a lot of hospital clerical work too.
Those jobs aren’t coming back.
