Being on the gulf side – is there any perceptable drop in prices based on the BP spill? – or is that all further north on the panhandle?
The spill didn’t affect prices in South Florida as far as I can tell. I didn’t go to the beach in Fort Myers this time, but nobody said anything about oil. I flew into Fort Myers and we drove to Miami.
SW Florida had been hit hard price wise. I’m only investing in Fort Myers because a childhood friend and his wife live there. Husband is a contractor and the wife is a Realtor. They do all the work.

Anyway if I can retire rich someday…stinky rich (but not super rich), I wouldn’t mind get a waterfront property in Florida with boat docks. Here in SD only that small community south of Coronado has boat-dock homes.
If you end up retiring super rich, you can pick up this place w/a boat dock:

That house benefits from the Mills Act.
But the owners are defaulted on $17,702.00 property taxes. Should be pocket change for them, or maybe not.
