I enjoyed moving as a kid. Looking back, I’m especially grateful to have lived abroad. It makes me different with a perspective that people can’t relate to because they don’t have the experience (I call them ignorant through no fault of their own).
I can definitely relate to Barrack Obama who’s lived in Indonesia. I believe that Obama is pretty successful and well-adjusted. And he moved a lot.

August 21, 2010 at 9:46 AM #594351jpinpbParticipantbrian – can’t you pick another example besides a political figure?
In any case, I do think that as long as there’s a solid foundation, as in a family life at home, moving could be a good experience. Children adjust. More importantly, I think maybe better able to deal w/the changes as you get older, jobs, etc, which inevitably happen later in life.
I have a good friend who got a wonderful job opportunity in another state, but didn’t want to leave b/c she grew up here her whole life and was scared.
Mind you, this job would have been an excellent opportunity to make new friends/connections also, as the job is very social. It was something I could not relate to. For me, I guess b/c of my background, it would be a big nothing to move for a better job. Yet for some people, it’s the end of the world. She doesn’t have kids, is not married, does not own a house.

1) That Oil Spill isn’t over by a long shot, so the panhandle and gulf coast are very risky still.
2) Hurricanes.
3) #2 means insurance continues increasing in price.
The Redneck republicans may denounce global warming but the insurance actuaries are looking at real losses coming and have started jacking premiums.
I know people with 4X insurance increases. Insurance should be like property tax on an annual basis, instead it’s more like the mortgage for older homes.4) Floridians : Inbred, degenerates, half were pirates the other half were hard core confederates.
5) Global Warming, any seal level rise and the place is hosed. south florida is mostl everglades, if sea levels rise 3 feet, most of Florida will be swamp.
6) Habitat and ecological collapse, most of the ecology there is on the edge and ready to fail.
The everglades are awreck and the rest of the state isn’t much better.7) So all in all, i’d rather not be there.
