Comment wasnt directed specifically at you but rather an overall vibe here nd elsewhere (including my ex) that kids will adjust and be fine not matter what you throw at them . Ill take a stable, secure boring life in suburbia everytime for the wonder years and beleive it results in self-confident well adjusted kids.[/quote]I really believe if you have a good and solid family life, that is the foundation of stability. Moving to different locations is not as important as security of a strong family life.
I’ll take as an example some of my cousins who did not move, but grew up their whole lives in the same city (for half their lives in the same house). I used to be envious of them. But now I see they were not exposed to many things that I was that I even take for granted. My uncle died when they were kids and my aunt worked. They had it tough growing up, but never moved. They have alcohol addiction problems and other difficulties.
I don’t think it matters whether you move. I think having strong support at home is more important. If you look at, for example, some lower income people, they lived their whole lives in the same city, same house. Did it help them? If their parents were, say, alcoholics or drug addicts, then living in the same city didn’t matter much.
I think what has a greater impact is a good and solid foundation at home. That provides security for children. As long as children have that, then moving to a different city is not a detrimental thing. JMO.

Your points are very well taken and I beleive that a solid foundation at home is also paramount. My point is not that one or the other is more important but rather both together are even better.August 21, 2010 at 9:25 AM #594425sdrealtorParticipantJP
