i cannot understand whyc arpeting exists. it seems inherently unsanitary. maybe if I were neater. Or my people were neater. But we basically need to vacuum every day. carpet seems bad to me,

We then bought a gazillion of those wool rugs Costco was selling (made in India). They allow you to clean UNDER the carpet, which is, IMO, essential after pulling up the carpet in our condo a few years ago.
We will NEVER go back to carpet. When we build our next house you can be sure the floor will be some sort of stone — everywhere.
We wear slippers around the house BTW, and have two dogs.
YMMV.
