Go hit Bedrosians for ideas on what type of flooring you want especially if it is stone or porcelain. They regularly have some killer deals on good styles. We picked up a travertine looking porcelain for $1.09 sq/ft and some slate textured looking porcelain for about $2.50 sq/ft. Then you need to find a good flooring guy. We used Jeff Holloway and he gave us a great deal with great quality work back in August.

I’d say if you can find similar deals on materials you’ll be paying ~$7k with materials and labor but could go much higher than that if materials are more exotic.

November 15, 2010 at 6:02 PM #632151briansd1GuestI’m betting that the stone is slate. You can’t smooth it out. You have to replace it.
I would not do travertine. That is just such a bubble/flipper type look. Avoid giving your condo that flipper look. In a few years it will look very dated. That look is 5 years old already and it’s getting tired.
I would do carrara marble or something like that.

November 16, 2010 at 8:19 AM #632270no_such_realityParticipantUnless you love the look of stone or wood with area rugs, I would do carpet.
We have hardwood floors in house except the bedrooms. Both wood, laminate and tile/stone floors are hard on the feet and back.
If you’re planning on living in the condo, get something that is going to have you come home from a cruddy day at work, kick off your shoes and go ‘ah’.
That isn’t tile and it isn’t wood.
