Fed to take ownership interests in banks

I’ve argued that taking directly ownership interest in banks was the best way to go to

– protect taxpayers interests
– recapitalize the banks quickly without waiting

Of course, the banks lobbied against nationalization and wanted a bailout so they could dump the bad debt onto the taxpayers.

It now looks that the situation deteriorated so much that Treasury will, at least partly, take over some banks.

This is no doubt the best use of that bailout money…nobody wanted to have to do this, but given the current situation it is the wisest choice.

It’s one of those rare times that I absolutely agree with Bush and Paulson.
