Fate of Conforming Jumbo Loans

I have been hearing that the conforming jumbo loan rates that we currently enjoy in San Diego at 697.5k is actually only a temporary measure that is slated to end this year. Is that correct? Are there any plans to renew this? Where should I be looking to see first news that they would? Is it going to affect any of you in whether you buy in 2008 vs 2009 or later? Thanks for your replies.

If this were a betting event in vegas I would put money that the conforming jumbos will be extended, especially after the recent sleuth of economic news about how terrible the economy is doing.

This economy thrives on spending. Stop the music chairs, lots of people are going to end up without a seat.

It’s sort of like General Motors that initially said that the “Employee Discount Pricing” for select GM vehicles starting last year…And more recently, this discount was extended to ALL 2008 GM vehicles up to beginning of September (deal should have already expired)…And behold, the “Employee Discount Pricing” has now been magically extended to include now both ALL 2008 and “some” 2009 vehicles. Pretty soon it will be all of 2009 vehicles. (Side note: a ‘Vette Z06 at $10k discount is looking pretty sweet these days….)

My opinion of course.
