Tile it or just use good hardwood, not hipster reclaimed junk.
July 26, 2016 at 12:55 PM #799997FlyerInHiGuestYou could learn to install it yourself. Haha.
Nice material and finish are expensive. One thing about wood is you need to refinish every so often especially if you have active family and pets.
Don’t break up the flooring with patches of different finish. Do the whole house.

July 26, 2016 at 1:16 PM #800000AnonymousGuestIs it the Vintage Timberworks place?
They’ve got cool stuff there but I couldn’t justify purchasing antique wood for flooring.

Flooring flow is generally best. but if it’s upstairs, that’s ok to use different finish. just try not to butt up flooring finishes together.
Design is a field of study in of itself. It’s all about flow. There are some contradictory principles. Matchy matchy furniture is bad. But flooring flow is important. Depends what you want to achieve.
Reclaimed wood in great. Timeless and goes well with different decor. it’s worth the money if you really want it. My friends installed in their house in OC. It wears very well with time — 2 kids, pets, frequent parties… The house is lived in.
New wood scratch more easily and doesn’t wear as well. You get what you pay for.

My wife is all about French Country, combined with Amalfi Coast decor (her two favorite places) so we have lots of distressed woods, since the styles range from elegant to farmhouse chic.
Art and view are the focal points in most of our rooms, but here are some other ideas you also might want to consider:

July 31, 2016 at 7:51 PM #800137duchessParticipantVintage is great. We spent a small fortune on our hand hewn beams from there. They add an element of authenticity to the home that can’t be beat. That said, we used Duchateau floors for our casita where we wanted to use wood floors. $8/Sq ft plus installation. The floors complement the beams well. The rest of the house is French limestone and honed marble.
