Ah but the instant torque and the feeling of being quicker than just about anything out there….
I love it. It used to be people said electric didn’t have performance.
Now them anti-electric folks complain that electric has no character. No wroom wroom.August 19, 2018 at 11:17 AM #810731outtamojoParticipant
True…. And after posting above I checked the wiki and evidently the model 3 gets about 4 mi. to the KWh, but probably not the way outtamojo drives, and only the single rear drive at that.
LOL I drive like the old fogey that I am. It’s the lane changes that I love- I swear as soon as I hit my left blinker the next lane drivers speed up. With a Tesla accelerating into the next lane is effortless.

Not just the Tesla. But any electric car is fast.

The French and Danes bike. That’s pretty cool.
September 8, 2018 at 12:12 AM #810858FlyerInHiGuestI just got my HOA to allow me to install a 240V outlet on the exterior wall of the condo so my tenant can charge. Luckily the assigned parking stop in this garden style complex is just outside. I see this as future proofing my property.
I have another condo where I put a 240V outlet in the patio/balcony area.
But I can see how electric cars in condos will be a problem. Somebody will have to build the charging infrastructure and they will need to make a profit thus making electric less attractive. So people with private garages may have an advantage in acquiring electric cars, so that could encourage sprawl.
November 8, 2018 at 2:01 PM #811175FlyerInHiGuestVW and Ford plan to cooperate. Good match since Ford is getting out of small cars.
In a few years, we should have lots of eclectic choices.VW plans to sell electric Tesla rival for less than $23,000: source – Reuters

We want alternatives NOW.

Patience, model year 2020 will see large expansion of EV choices. That’s exactly a year away. Plus with Tesla giving the luxury car makers a severe beating, they are going to finally be more serious about EVs.
November 9, 2018 at 12:01 PM #811187FlyerInHiGuestYes, with economies of scale, things will change fast.
It’s actually cheaper, labor wise, to build electrics. All else being equal, there will be job losses in the auto industry because it takes less time and fewer parts to build electric cars. The cities will become quiet, and wonderful places to live without the petrol pollution.
November 12, 2018 at 8:57 PM #811199EscoguyParticipantWith the new rate of 9 cents per kWh, my wife’s Model 3 costs about 26% of the cost of gas or $20 a month to drive 900 miles.
So the annual savings of the Model 3 are about $720 vs a 40 mpg gasoline car.
assume $3.5/gallon gas with 40 mpg or 9 cents/mile
assume 9.3 cents/ kWh with .250 kWh/mile or 2.3 cents per mile860 miles/month
If the car lasts 15 years, fuel savings would be about 25% of the cost of the vehicle. We’re on our fourth EV (Model S/Model 3) My wife’s old Leaf was “totaled” in an accident. My daughter drives my Handa PHEV.
We installed solar but it really isn’t necessary with the EVTOU-5 rate.
yes there is a $16/month surcharge but with our over production and climate credit and $500 per vehicle EV rebate, we don’t pay for gasoline, natural gas or electric.Total investment to do this for solar would be about $22K.
Depending on energy consumption patterns, payback is about 5 years.EVs are more fun to drive too.
December 11, 2018 at 1:58 PM #811280FlyerInHiGuestSo I was at Costco the other day and people were waiting in line to fill their cars.
Such a waste of time to go to the gas station. With an electric, you don’t need to wait in line for fuel ever.
I love it that’s EV have become a status symbol. That with LED lighting. Makes people who cling to old tech look like imbeciles.

Just imagine most current condo/apartment dwellers finding a charging station, then waiting for the batteries to charge LOL.
Don’t get me wrong, but until we get 5-15 minute charging stations, EV is mostly reserved for home owners who can let their car sit and charge for several hours in a garage once a day or so.
Even if you get 15 minute chargers you will need one hell of a lot of them (many many more than current gas pumps), else you could be waiting several hours just to get your chance to charge.
I would definitely want a backup generator (maybe a backup gas ICE car) If I had an EV.
