Again, none of this makes me wonder. Do not dismiss or discount the invisible stimulus of people not paying their mortgage. That’s a lot of extra money for dinners out and movies and shopping.

August 17, 2011 at 11:16 AM #720368CoronitaParticipant
i went to the new Cinepolis luxury theaters in Del Mar last night. On a Tuesday night with tickets about $20 a person with an older movie showing, Harry Potter; it was still pretty packed. Parking was very difficult to find and there were lots of people around the general plaza there. That makes you wonder.
Did you enjoy the hi-tech ordering system?
First comment. It’s not del mar, it’s carmel valley π
Second comment…Where this mall is located and specifically this movie theater is meant to appeal to folks who can still spend. Perhaps you can consider it “higher end”…It will do well. Heck even if tickets were $30 a pop, it would still sell.
Some of the surrounding stores are still doing pretty well as well. If you have kids, just look at how Ceramic Cafe is doing. I take my kid there every so often, and it’s always packed.
I still see kids in this area walking out with the latest cell phone that mommy and daddy bought them.

Chinese/Asian tourists coming on tour buses make up a big portion of shoppers.
I’m sure the Panda Express and PF Changs are huge draws for the Chinese/Asian tourists also.
You think that Americanized Chinese food can attract Chinese tourists??
You’d be surprised. My parents are the type of people that will travel anywhere in the world, and the first thing they will try to do is find the local restaurant that services chinese food, no matter how bad it is.
