If a Fire Department is a private company, their sole worries are their bottom line, shareholders, and profit, not you or your safety.
Would you want a Fire Department determining that your house and family is not worth the cost to their bottom line? Sounds a lot like the healthcare industry.

They also get an employer matched retirement program similar to a 401k (we’re their employer btw) and their pensions.
