I just found it interesting that since this low of Oct 9-10, 2009 the Dow has:
1. Rose then dropped to 8.1K on 10/27
2. Only to rise to to 9.6k on 11/4, Election Day
3. Drop to 7.6k by 11/20
4. Rose to 9.0k only to drop back to 8.0k this week.Unfortunately, the collateral damage has started. I can’t see how the Dow can stay above 8.0k any longer and test the 7.6k low on 11/20/08. Even the Dow seems not only possible, but probable to be in the 6’s.
Fed is threatening to monetize the Treasury Bond debt. The problem is they can’t issue the $2Tril already needed plus buy up all the bonds held by others in the open market.
Bonds sold off pretty good after his comments on it which means they are calling his bluff.

we actually need a plunge down to the mid 5’s to change the psychology surrounding the equity markets
a cleansing purge would allow people to think that a bottom was finally in and then they might start buying stocks again
the longer we waffle around like this, the longer the slow drain continues
what is that sucking sound? oh, it’s your 401K

February 1, 2009 at 8:52 AM #339632Chris Scoreboard JohnstonParticipantAgree with the 5 handle call on the Dow 4plex. I will be posting a chart in my blog that shows the PPT buying the EMini SP futures to keep this market from breaking those lows, but they are not going to be able to stop it. The question of whether the new admins PPT would resume what the prior one was doing in this area has been answered, YES! Just look at the large buying in the Large Speculator group, damn are they losing a ton of dough doing this!
Talk about a bad use of taxpaxer dollars….
