This is the only dog beach for miles and miles. It is open to unleashed dogs only in the winter. Non-dog people are often hostile against the presence of dogs there for no particular reason, and I think, in spite of the supposed argument in this piece that this is true of the writer. The concrete barrier going north from the river to the entrance is hazardous, yes, but not because of dogs. The whole thing should be re-engineered so that dogs and people are not threatened by the cars that race down to the bottleneck caused by the closing of a lane, by the arrogant bicyclists who assume that they are the only wheels on the road. I have been going to this beach for at least 30 years and have never seen one incident that the writer describes. I have never seen anyone take an unleashed dog on the road itself. It seems to me that this is a dog hater, pure and simple. (Maybe not so pure.)
I walk that bridge probably 5 times a week. Never had nor seen a problem. Worst thing that ever happened to me was i got rubbed by a wet dog. Last bad dog i saw on that beach (or south across the channel for that matter) was mine. He was about 9 months old. Seems little dog owners don’t like when big dogs take their little dogs heads in their mouths. Go figure. Mine hasn’t been back there since off lead. That was 8 years ago.
