I enjoy powayseller’s posts. If you don’t like them, don’t read them.
October 2, 2006 at 10:11 AM #37011speedingpulletParticipantI read and enjoy her intital posts, but find the ensuing posts by others, on semantics and her personal qualities, very dull.
October 2, 2006 at 10:38 AM #37018powaysellerParticipantThanks for all the comments so far. I am sorry if I was inconsiderate to other threads, by making them go further down the list. I never had the malice that is attributed to me. I posted not to make someone else’s post go down the list, but to provide new information that I came across.
This is a great opportunity for sduuude to begin some threads. I can take this time to put the finishing touches on my own website, and you guys can redirect the forums. I am anxious to read the threads that you all start, and look forward to learning more what everyone else thinks.
October 2, 2006 at 10:56 AM #37019IONEGARMParticipantShort answer, Yes.
Long answer: I come to the board itself rarely, but when I do all I have seen is powaysellers posts. One person dominating a conversation (poorly) isn’t a conversation it is someone wanting to hear them speak. The posts I have read of powayseller all seemed more reporting than insightful thinking. I would argue that she should concentrate on quality rather than quantity.
Try limiting yourself to one or two posts a day, and really work on those posts and you might surprise yourself with the insight you come up with.
October 2, 2006 at 11:45 AM #37021AnonymousGuestShort Answer: No. Poway does NOT post too much.
Long Answer: Who does post too much: Whiny cranky sduuuuuuuuuuuuuude and his minions bitching and moaning about Poway. Jesus Christ, get a frickin’ life. If you don’t like reading her posts, skip them and move on.
I for one am getting tired of seeing all the moaning about Poway and her opinions. It’s not as if you complainers are adding any compelling material to this blog. Agree with her or not, her posts are at least interesting.
October 2, 2006 at 12:01 PM #37022AnonymousGuestThis thread intrigues me. Can one person take over someone else’s blog and change its course, and what has been the contribution of the complainers? It’s easy enough to count and my inquisitive nature got the better of me.
In the past 2 weeks there are 111 new threads: 39 from powayseller, 1 from sduuuude, 1 from Chrispy, 2 from IONEGARM. Not a single thread was started by the other complainers: zk, konokai, JES,privatebanker, SDSOLDOct05.
They write nothing, she writes a lot. Two extremes. Maybe we should start a thread saying that if you just read this blog and don’t contribute, you’re being a leach, LOL! That’s me for sure. I just don’t have the interest or time to dig up stuff and post on a blog so I like all the posts on piggington and other places. The more, the better for me.
I’m game to see how this forum would change without her posts, so take a break powayseller and start your own website. As for sduuude, man, give her a fu*king break and get over your hard-on for her. Show us if you’re really man enough to make a post, besides the ones where you pick on powayseller. You’re giving us guys a bad rap, dude!
Cheers, lawguy
October 2, 2006 at 12:21 PM #37025DanielParticipantI don’t see a problem with PS posting often (even though I’ve been known to disagree with her on some issues). What is a bit of a problem is the format of this blog, where new threads keep pushing old ones off the list.
My suggestion: make the “Active forum topics” list a bit longer. For example, everything that had a single post in the last day (that would be brand new threads) AND ALSO everything that had at least 10 posts in the past 3 days (that would be active topics that may otherwise fall off the radar).
I almost never go back to the threads that fall off (OK, I’m lazy). For all I know, questions may have been directed to me on those threads, and I never replied.
October 2, 2006 at 12:29 PM #37026AnonymousGuestAs someone who has been reading this blog since April of 2006, my vote as a reader would be for Powayseller to create her own blog.
The usefullness of this blog is first of all Rich’s articles. In addition, I used to like the user forums for the purpose of seeing what other people in the southern california real estate community were thinking about what’s happening, their reactions and thoughts.
The user forum is no longer useful for this purpose because the user forums have become basically a Powayseller blog that has hitched it’s wagon to Rich’s content.
I disagree with those who suggest that the most appropriate solution is to just wade past Powayseller’s posts or to start more of our own threads.
One reason is a question of quality versus quantity. It wouldn’t help with the quality or diversity of opinions to just have others posting as frequently, we would just have to wade through more posts that don’t bring new opinions on new topics. The likely result would not truly be diversity of topic or opinion, just more quantity.
Another reason is that it just makes more sense, if Powayseller has so much to say, she should have a blog that people who want to hear it can go to, rather than filling up a community dialogue with her opinions.
I think that the best solution for everyone would be for Powayseller to have her own blog. That way those who want to read her content can, and those of us who would like to see a more balanced participation of those in the community would have active forum topics that have a tone of balance and diversity of opinion.
October 2, 2006 at 1:04 PM #37029BikeRiderParticipantThis is a crazy thread. This blog is in America, right? Or did it get redirected to China or something? You want to cast out an individual because they are enjoying something? Powayseller hasn’t driven her SUV through a group of people. I didn’t see her beat any baby seals over the head. She tends to post alot. She appears to be very dedicated to her cause. If EVERYONE had something to say and said it, then Powayseller wouldn’t really be standing out at all. I like reading all the posts. I admit sometimes I skip past some of Powayseller’s more long winded entries, but it never crosses my mind that she needs to be tared and feathered over her writings. Lighten up.
October 2, 2006 at 1:04 PM #37028PerryChaseParticipantI’m afraid that these discussion forums will die if it weren’t for powayseller’s posts.
The Professor updates his contents only once in a while and I beleive that his new job as a financial consultant prevents him from posting in user forums.
In my view, Piggington is all about the bubble. It’s not a site for circumspect “balanced” analysis of the real estate market. For that we can all read Business Week.
I love how powayseller pokes fun at the perma-bulls.
powayseller, i’m a fan of yours. Let us know were you go and I’ll follow.
jg, I’m surprised you don’t like the “Union Buffoon.” Isn’t it a conservative newspaper? Do you watch Fox News?
October 2, 2006 at 1:09 PM #37030renterclintParticipantNo, Powayseller should post as many times as she wants provided she has something interesting/meaningful to say.
To be honest, some of PS’s comments really get on my nerves. Especially, when she arrogantly assumes that her fairly far-fetched assumption that homes will lose 50% of their value is the gospel (although I hope that she’s right – minus the doomsday element of course). Several times in her threads, she criticizes new buyers for their “ignorance”. We all have our theories about housing, yet most of us realize that our predictions are not a sure thing. Poway does not seem to get that. It also annoys me when she talks about how she’s tired of “teaching” everyone about these issues, like she some kind of ultimate expert.
Even with these annoyances, I still find her posts mostly interesting, and I appreciate the time that she puts into sharing new info she comes across.
I’ve been coming to this site for almost a year now, and I think I’ve posted maybe 3 responses. It’s not like I’ve contributed enough to really criticize anyone… but I guess I just did.
Even though you annoy me, keep up the good work, Powayseller!! 🙂
October 2, 2006 at 1:14 PM #37031PerryChaseParticipantpart of powayseller’s charm is her strong character. I would rather have her frank hard-hitting posts than the comments of some boring economist.
October 2, 2006 at 1:19 PM #37032sdcellarParticipantI like to think that Piggington is all about reality. I am most interested in quality posts related to the present and future state of the real estate market.
The bubble is reality. It’s just a question of what’s going to happen next and staying a step or two ahead of it.
I like Rich’s tag line about everyone else bringing data. I don’t think he’s asking us to be bearish for the sake of being bearish.
I’m making no comments about powayseller here, rather that balanced is good if that’s the “truth”. If perma-bearing is what I was looking for, I’d hang out at Housing Panic (no thank you very much).
October 2, 2006 at 1:23 PM #37034BikeRiderParticipant“No, Powayseller should post as many times as she wants provided she has something interesting/meaningful to say.”
I think the rub is that some people feel they know exactly when something is “interesting/meaningful” to THEM, and the THEM part is the problem. I guess they feel they are entitled to what THEY want to read. Entitlement??? in the blog??? what the?????
