There have been almost 25,000 murders in Mexico since 2004. Let’s assume that the entire 200 Americans murdered or missing were “innocents” (it’s probably half that number, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt). That’s 0.8% of the total murders over the period. Nothing to celebrate, but confirms my suspicion that the total number of “innocent bystanders” killed in Mexico is a very low percentage of the total. According to the State Department, there are over 500,000 American citizens living in Mexico, a large chunk of which are retirees. I’d bet that Americans visiting Mexico overnight amount to at least 1 million annually. The numbers in Baja are in the hundreds of thousands even in today’s climate. But let’s cut those numbers way down. Let’s say the number of Americans visiting Mexico overnight is 500,000 per year. So, that’s 3 million American overnight visitors over the last six years. Add in the half million that live there. And there are 275 murders and disappearances of Americans over the period. Do the math. This does not look like a major problem to me in the whole scheme of things. Yes, you want to be very careful. But the stats just don’t belie the notion of death around every corner.

I could care less if Americans go down there or not. In fact, although I don’t go that often, I prefer things the way they are now with cheaper hotels and uncrowded surf.

If you look at the number of “civilian” killings in SD you should be afraid to leave your house. I have 3 properties in Rosarito and my wife goes to Mexico at least twice a month with our 4 children. We never feel threatened in the slightist. We camp on the beach at Los Alositos several times a year and are quite thankful of the paranoia the MSM has caused. It used to be difficult to get a spot down there, but now if we go on a Wed. or Thur. we can pretty much pick our site right at the beach front. As my kids range in age from 10 to 18 it is the perfect senario. Please continue your paranoid delusions of death and destruction in Mexico so those of us with some sanity left can enjoy the paradise that is Mexico.

I still go down to a very remote surf spot 8 hrs south of the border. I stopped leaving at 4am, now I wait til it is light out, as well as several other precautions. I never stop to eat a taco etc. Just get gas and keep going. I do not take my wife or kids down anymore.

Huge vehicle and weapons upgrades to the police and military over the last couple of years. All brand new vehicles and uniforms. My guess at the expense of the us taxes payer. In a way, I feel safer then I did 10 years ago, black hummers and decked out snipers teams ect.

PS I would bet my life savings that an American has been murdered down there! I wouldn’t waste the 5 minutes it would take to google it. It is ridiculous to insinuate otherwise.
