Does anybody go to Mexico?

In my younger days we were at Hussong’s every weekend before the gringos new what “Cerveza Mas Fina” was. We would camp at Rosario Beach, I even took my college girlfriend on a road trip to La Paz. Fish tacos at the Ensenada wharf and even churros in TJ. Cheap gas, cerveza (the old Carta Blanca bottle had a divit in the bottom of the bottle that you could fit the cap of another bottle and twist off) I could not imagine going anywhere in Mexico now. It was a spectacular country. Very Sad

We went to San Jose del cabo in winter/spring 2008 and wasnt worried whatsoever. Driving into mexico is another story. I would be weary about going to places off the beaten path a little bit because of the unknown.

I love mexico though and hope to buy a vacation home there down the road.

Sounds like a good poll question. I have not been down there in probably 25 years and would not go near the place now due to the drug wars. It is too bad. We used to go there to eat and shop in the 70- early 80’s. We even drove to La Paz when the road was first opened up and camped out along the way.

I agree it is really sad. When I was 10 years old my dad took me on a road trip. We went down to Guerrero Negro, cut across to Bahia De Los Angeles and came back up. In college we went down there regularly to party. My first marriage my wife and I and her son went down alot… same places, Guerrero Negro and Bahia… sometimes we would go beach side and sometime gulf side… Lots of fishing and hanging out… great times and the kids loved it. We would always bring a few nephews and such.

That was one wife and many years ago. Stopped going down altogether a few years back. A former coworker of mine who used to go regularly with a few buddies would go pretty far down and they would kite surf. They would always leave about 4 in the morning. Had a few trucks and all of their gear. About 2 years ago just past the border they were robbed at gunpoint. All the gear, the trucks, everything.

I am sure it is not as bad as the media makes it sounds but no way am I going there nor would I let my kids. Just not worth the risk.
