Dude. You will be lucky to pay MSRP for a 2016 ND with a stick if you are ordering now. Until the hype dies down, all the ones with the proper manual transmission are sold out for the first batch. I think only automatics can be preordered right now, if at all.
It’s not going to be a limited production car, so wait a year or two, until the miata enthusiasts are done.
Have you sat in the 2016 miata? Its awesome. Brian Goodwin / rocky miatamotive had one last week at the tech session.power numbers might seem low, but those that drove it says its as quick as an NC with the weight less than an NB with a much stiffer frame. I wouldn’t pay premium right now, but its a pretty good car.

I thought the 1600lb red catfish was cooler though.

As far as the auto vs stick thing, if there’s such demand for a real transmission, why didn’t Mazda plan to produce more sticks vs idiotmatics? Confused about their planning or lack of planning.

There are two crowds for miatas. The racing enthusiasts. And the ones like like it for the looks and will just daily drive them. They won’t have a problem selling the automatics. It’d just the initial rush from enthusiasts that want to be the first to get them on the track.
July 4, 2015 at 9:46 AM #787737CoronitaParticipantWhat amazed me was how solid the fit and finish was despite all the weight loss. Mazda engineers really thought things out pretty well. If you notice on the passenger side, they shrunk the passenger footwell and made part of it narrower where the transmission runs. As far as headroom, I didn’t feel cramped and I saw big people fit just fine. The amazing part was how light the folding top was. One hand operation and it was effortless. Unlike to original na and nb.

PHT will be an option. Softtop is standard. No word on a removal hardtop, though it probably will happen. Some clubs don’t allow open roof cars on a track.
Corner weight was posted on that forum with 200lb driver. Near even. And total weight included 6gals of gas I think was 2484 with driver 2283 without

I don’t have a spare for my NA. I just took it out. It also doesn’t have the carpet or anything else. I also ditched the 30lb battery for 2.5lb battery. My wider tires are heavier than stock while the rims drop 2lbs each, so theres probably a 5 lb gain per wheel. The supercharger and rollbar adds about 80lbs,so it probably evens out on what I took out versus what I put on. I haven’t had time to put it on a scale yet. Goodwin has a 2.5 conversion for your car, and cogsworth has a carb legal supercharger for the NC. Just saying….

Race junkies don’t truly seek out new Miata’s to drive on the track. Their draw is when they’re depreciated, with minimal costs in consumables to keep them on the track.
So leave it to the enthusiasts to buy them new to commute with, so I can pickup one in many years after that for a pittance to really beat on them.
