Don’t have the name of a designer for you, but my wife recently redecorated our RSF home in the Amalfi Coast style. She did all of her own research, and came up with a great design plan that we really love.
We travel a lot, and have spent a lot of time on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, so it was a natural for us.
You might want to check out this option online, and/or ask a designer about it.
February 19, 2012 at 6:27 PM #738329profhoffParticipantThat’s definitely a luxe look! Since we’re basically stuck in the tract house box, we are thinking more “mid-century modern coastal” or even modern with a tropical vibe. The trick will be to see how much we can do with paint and new flooring.
Hopefully some piggs have some designer recos!

Hope they respond here.

http://www.houzz.com/I think it’s best to start reading and educating yourself about different designs.
I love the California mid-century look. The brownish ornate look of late is kinda a turn-off to me.
I would go with a design that is timeless and would look nice over decades.
Lighting is very important. Avoid flood lighting. Use halogen spot lighting. CFLs save energy but the light they emit is glaring. I’m hoping for innovation in LED lighting.

That’s a great app. We have pretty firm ideas of what we’re looking for, but really need professional help pulling it together. We will have to implement the plan in stages but it helps to know where you’re going so you can efficiently ultimately get there.

They said they can’t recommend them highly enough.
Best of luck on your new house!

Have you redone your house yet? I love the mid-century modern look.

We finally bought the house in May and have been slowly renovating for the past few months. New hardwoods, cleaned and sealed the travertine, paint, and lots of deep cleaning and repairs.
We don’t have furniture yet, but it’s starting to come together.
Above is the Nelson Saucer pendant we installed in the dining room.

Mid-century is quintessecially American and timeless. It’s about progress, engineering and beautiful industrial design that marry form and function.
I’m making my Vegas house into a mid-century modern house. Although the outside is stucco and red tiles, it’s a one story house so it would work well inside. I’d love to have terazzo flooring throughout, but that’s an expensive proposition and the house is not worth it.
I’m buying stuff from Room and Board such as a Saarinen table, etc.. Certain designs, although over 1/2 century old still look great today.
Talking about design, I’m a fan of Apple because they sparked a rebirth of innovative American consumer design. They should design things other than electronics, or maybe license their brand.
August 8, 2012 at 11:48 AM #749745sdrealtorParticipantI have a house full of Herman Miller furniture in perfct condition from the 50’s that my parents passed down to me. Make me an offer.
August 8, 2012 at 12:21 PM #749748briansd1GuestYour parents had good taste, sdrealtor. I picture your family as a Mad Men type family living in Cherry Hill, NJ. Maybe your dad was an executive at RCA.
Unfortunately, I don’t need a house full of furniture. I just need some pieces in the right color and style. My house is simple with pure white walls, and clutter free. I’m going for the mid-century bachelor pad look.
sdrealtor, I think you can sell the furniture on consignment. Original manufactured stuff have more value.
