This is a typical article from the LA Times, which is one of the reasons I stopped reading it long ago. The problem isn’t Prop 13, it;s run away spending. The California Legislature, and their friends in the press, continue to complain about the obstacles in the way of getting their hands on more of our money.
Proposition 13 and the 2/3 majority requirement for tax increases are commonly cited as the problem but these are just scapegoats. The real problem is their incompetence and inability to live within their means.
My opinion, before we make it easier to take our money, the government needs to show they have the ability to live within the constraints of the income. The answer is not more money, the answer is realizing that you will never have enough money to do all the things you want to do.
