The complaining doesn’t bother me except for the “I am a victim” posts and those that lack circumspection or depth whatsoever in favor of self centered whining.
I think the only way we could really get the attention of the ruling class is an economic revolution.IT would be so easy. I don’t believe we could agree on how we would want them to be if we did scare them and so we won’t cooperate or risk harm to ourselves by being the first,of the likely few,to venture against the machine.
Those of us who would like to see such a thing can at least take action by how we spend and what material things we aspire to. Quit spending, quit wanting to spend. Quit needing your job to the highest degree possible. We could go on a necessities only strike….when piggs fly.
Appealing to the ruling class on their terms won’t do anything. I doubt the average person’s participation in the political scheme, voting for various people and on agendas spoon fed to us is going to do much either.

Writing letters/emails to congress – waste of time, will be in the trash in a nano-second.
The most effective action the average citizen can take: educate yourself on the issues and candidates and then vote accordingly. Sorry, I just had to state the obvious.

January 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM #143455NewtoSanDiegoGuestI agree voting is most effective, but it is not the only avenue for you to do something.
Money is also key, contribute to organizations that you believe in.
The Center for Responsible Lending was the voice in the wilderness a couple years back railing against Lending abuses and the housing bubble. They lobby the hill agressively trying to counter the big money lobbyist from banking and real estate.
http://www.responsiblelending.org/
There’s countless other organizations, local, state, national that try influence public policy.
Just put your Dollars where your beliefs are.
I agree, letter writing and callng your congressperson is only of very limited effectiveness. But believe it or not, they actually tally it (grunt work for a Hill intern). In a small way it may influence politicians. These folks are always trying to assess public opinion
Write letters to your local town newspaper editor, stage a sit, gather funds from like minded folks and get an ad put in the paper. Start a non-profit (you can do it very cheaply). etc..
Or just go back to watching reruns of American Idol.
