SDR, I think you mean pass muster? Or are you holding out on some Grey Poupon for us bubblesitters?
Gotta tell you I hold your posts in the highest regards – it is so refreshing to find a Realtor (TM) who tells it like it is!
May 9, 2007 at 11:47 AM #52192GoUSCParticipantI love BP. It’s quiet, yet close enough to the action. The majority of people are very down to earth. Just a great place to live. Unfortunately the school system does suck. Fortunately doesn’t impact me as I am single and the girlfriend and I have no plans for kids or marriage anytime soon.
May 9, 2007 at 11:58 AM #52194(former)FormerSanDieganParticipantRegarding schools around BP … I found Bay Park elementary to be fairly good. The problem is the middle schools and High school (Clairemont High). This is typical of a lot of places in CA, though, I suppose.
May 9, 2007 at 12:18 PM #52199DrewParticipantI am second generation Bay Park Elementary, Marston Middle School, Clairemont High alumni (my father attended all three in the 50’s and 60’s.) Based on what he told me regarding schools when he attended, by the time I made my rounds through each, quality had definately decreased. However, for me, keeping our children (when we decide to have some) in a safe area, near family, etc. trumps the potential shortcomings of the schools. If the schools are really as bad some make them out to be, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
May 9, 2007 at 12:40 PM #52202PerryChaseParticipantSomething is odd with the house on San Juan.
The last purchase was in 1984 for $225k and 2006 property tax was $3712; but the assess value is a cool $1 million. Was is recently sold for that much? And now it’s list at a big loss?http://www.sdlookup.com/Property-F5F4D5EF-2439_Juan_St_San_Diego_CA_92110

I don’t like the wood paneling of this house. It reminds me of the rental condos at the ski resorts I used to rent when I was younger. That chalet style look is not really appropriate for sunny, beachy San Diego.
May 9, 2007 at 12:44 PM #52205PerryChaseParticipantAbout school districts, with good parenting and perhaps private schools, children can excel in all neighborhoods. I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that kids who grow up in Carmel Valley, Semi Valley or similar cookie cutter upscale neighborhoods grow up to be interesting adults. But that’s a different topic altogether.
May 9, 2007 at 1:44 PM #52221bayparkwatcherParticipantI think this is true. My kid went to public schools in an average San Diego County district. In my experience, the trick is to get them into the GATE program, if they qualify, in elem/mid school. These kids tend to stick together and go on to the AP courses in high school. I’m very satisfied with her education and she got into a great college.
May 9, 2007 at 2:39 PM #52231NotCrankyParticipantI would live in Bay Park….for all the reasons you all have mentioned. It looks like the most hassle free, amenity providing areas of the county. There is a great YMCA just down Morena on Friars Road. Mission bay park $ Dog beach right down the hill, Old Town downtown & Balboa Park to the left, La jolla to the right. Its the best location for work and recreation opportunities in the county. I do wonder about air quality that close to the I-5. I never could afford it as a renter or a buyer until now,Thanks to hard work and bubble money. For now I have reasons for living someplace else…at least for several years
May 9, 2007 at 3:06 PM #52237WhatGoesUpParticipantA lot of people feel like they are as successful as the things they can get.. for some a $715k house, if they can get it means they are or will be successful.. they think backwards, just like they think if they have kids, then they will be responsible even though they couldn’t behave the earlier part of their life.. if they can get a $715k house, then it must be right, after all banks don’t lose money right – so the bank is offering it to them, hey maybe I’m doing better than I thought even though I have no cash!?
These are the same people that will bite on a realtor saying, “act now! 5 other buyers! hurry!”.

This is why my degree is in electrical engineering. I am a boob when it comes to pretty much anything else including phrases, metaphors, or anything else to do with the english language..
I do pretty much agree with all of you guys about the parenting skills being much much more important then the ranking of the school. However we all do things to keep the domestic peace in our families. My wife gives me alot of leeway on stuff so I believe giving her things she wants in return is fair play. So it doesn’t seem like Bay Park is in the equation but ya never know. If I found a good deal and if I could get her to agree on it I would take it in a heartbeat because the positives highly outweigh the negatives.

The air quality here seems pretty good. I work right on Morena. If you’re as close to the 5 as I am, there is traffic noise, however. Most of the time I ignore it — it becomes white noise after awhile. But when I’m on the phone, I usually have to shut the door. I’m not sure how high up on the hill you have to go to avoid this. I’ll test it, though, when I get a chance.
May 9, 2007 at 4:07 PM #52244lnilesParticipantHow is the jet noise over there in BP? I live in Sorrento Valley and it’s really annoying at times.
May 9, 2007 at 4:46 PM #52247NotCrankyParticipantRustico
I didn’t think about the noise from traffic and from jets. The noise would probably be acceptable. Jets practically shaking the house off the foundation like they do in parts of the city on the south side of the airport would be too much. It does seem that the almost constant breeze through the area would clear the car exhaust from the I-5 out almost as fast as it enters the enviornment.
For anyone who might know: Can kids get into Point Loma High School if they live somewhere in or around Bay Park? Seems like that would be a better opportunity than Clairemont or Madison.
ThanksMay 9, 2007 at 5:02 PM #52249DrewParticipantThe commercial flight paths are north and south of BP, so you hardly (if ever) get any airplane noise. You definately have the constant hum of the 5 and 8 freeways, but after a while it becomes white noise. Even further up the hill, you still hear it.
Maybe its because of all of my childhood memories, but everytime I am down there, it is so relaxing. My wife and I are currently renting in Poway and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, we’re planning to move to a BP rental when our lease is up later this summer. We make at least three 60 mile round trips to the BP/Pac Beach area every weekend to visit family, friends, and dining.
