January 18, 2008 at 3:22 PM #138275PCinSDGuestA friend of mine has his eye on a bank owned property in Spring Valley. He was thinking about making a low-ball offer – but first wanted to see what it could rent for. He ran a fake rental ad on craigslist for “x” amount of rent. Got flooded with responses. Now he knows. I think another poster on this site recently mentioned doing a similar tactic. That’s the down-side of using a web-site that allows anyone to post for free.

January 18, 2008 at 4:19 PM #138296EnorahParticipantI know exactly what you are talking about.
I saw those ads this summer when we were looking for a rental.
One scammer claimed to have “lists” of pet approved housing that you purchased from them. Apparently the list was outdated and none of the properties were available any longer.
I know this because someone was on the war-path and kept taking out their own ads outing the scammers.
The other one was the one I think you are talking about with the crazy low ball price and one pic on each ad. I think it is the same scam where they claim to have a list that you purchase. A list of outdated listings or ones you could have found yourself on craigslist.
