Yes, this happens and I don’t know why. I suggest you go down to the county assessor’s office. Look up the owner’s name and then see if there are any notices of default against the owner. This way you will know if the person trying to rent to you is even the real owner of the property. There are too many scams out there these days to not be suspicious of all strangers.

The homes I am looking at are not listed there, so that gives me confidence, and also they are being rented via a property mgt. agency. Man are there ever alot of foreclosures out there!
