June 22, 2020 at 12:45 PM #818404CoronitaParticipantSo this was funny thing that happened over the weekend. Ever since I’ve been on furlow Fridays, I’ve been telling my friends about it. And there is this one friend in Carmel Valley that has son in high school. He started working at 85c in February for about 3 weeks but then Covid happened and he wasn’t called back to work….
I think you know where this is going….
So basically, I told my friend about the UI benefit, and so he and his son were like, sure why not try to apply for it…
Well, he got $90/wk from the state and $600/wk from the fed.
$690k/week retroactive to when he was first furlowed.. (I think the federal benefit probably doesn’t start until later, but still for a high school kid $690/week for doing nothing lol) April, May, June, and July $690 *12 weeks.
Covid cheese….Lol. Not that he needs the money. she bought his son an Audi to drive to high school.June 23, 2020 at 9:47 AM #818421outtamojoParticipantTexas Children’s Hospital will accept adults- cant tell if this is precautionary or the medical systems are at capacity.
If the latter is the case it is imperative they stop testing for covid immediately!June 23, 2020 at 9:52 AM #818405sdrealtorParticipantI can confirm this as true as I know a 16 year old that worked a few weekends at Legoland before the shutdown. She’s getting even more cheese but she needs it. Only drives a Mazda. And it’s 18 weeks of $600 PUA payments
June 23, 2020 at 9:56 AM #818424FlyerInHiGuestWhile other countries are testing and testing again, we are slowing down testing to find fewer cases. That’s almost a fact.
June 23, 2020 at 12:02 PM #818428The-ShovelerParticipantFrom what I understand they are putting people in hospitals even if they are not seriously sick.

I can only speak to where I work but we dont want anyone covid positive in- house if we can help it.Where did you hear this?
June 23, 2020 at 1:20 PM #818432The-ShovelerParticipantMaybe it was just a recommendation I saw.
WHO also advises that all confirmed cases, even mild cases, should be isolated in health facilities.
June 23, 2020 at 2:26 PM #818433outtamojoParticipantRecommendations for mild cases is stay home and self isolate and seek medical care if symptoms become severe.
We dont follow WHO

Where I work
those people that are positive after the drive up tests are told to stay home unless they are unable to care for themselves or very severe symptoms. So much misconception so sad.

July 14, 2020 at 12:46 PM #818785svelteParticipantMy 401K company keeps sending me nastygrams that I’m not diversified enough.
I just checked my 401K – I’m up 1% for the year! While the SP500 is down a hair. That’s with 20% of my money in a stable fund.
I don’t think I’m doing too bad. It would be interesting to see how I would have been had I followed their fund recommendations…bet I would still be down.
July 14, 2020 at 1:49 PM #818788sdrealtorParticipantJust checked my two accounts.
I have an active trading account which is roughly a quarter of my brokerage/retirement assets.
I have a long portfolio which is 3/4’s of my brokerage/retirements assets that I do very little trading with. Its mostly large cap dividend aristocrats, some bonds, some cash and some income funds.
The first is up 20% ytd and the second is up around 2% ytd. Blended together Im up just over 5% ytd. Not bad for all this mayhem.
July 14, 2020 at 6:40 PM #818797CoronitaParticipantI think so far things have been going well for investments. My ,401k/IRA is on autopilot. It’s doing 2% so far. My kids 529k is roughly 1.5%
My trading account is do very well. I’ll owe a very large short term cap gain taxes next year.
