JC – Thanks for posting your info. I know what you mean. When you find some guy that is good, you kinda don’t want to give away the info. But it helps them and others here, so that’s cool.
I also wanted to get back on the guy who fabricated and installed my granite that worked for Cesar. His name was Germano or Jermano. Not sure of the spelling, sorry.
Anyway, I wanted to put in my bathroom cabinets real quick before this weekend. I honestly wasn’t sure I wanted to take on this project so soon after all the patio expense. But we are crazy that way and are thriving on the stress. LOL.
I called Cesar and asked if he had some small slabs. He has some orphan pieces. I checked them out and it was exactly what I wanted. We haggled a little on price and timeframe. I told him I was on a really tight budget. He said he could get it all done by Friday, but it would be a little extra. But he would work w/me and I could pay half now and half later. Really great guy.
I can’t wait till that bathroom is done.
This whole remodel has been really wearing us out, but I feel like I’ve been so lucky w/people who have been doing the work. Sometimes I could just hug them.

October 10, 2011 at 3:38 AM #730374CA renterParticipantThanks for the reminder in the other thread about posting recommendations here. Bolding key words to make it easier for others to find.
We have a good electrician who has done quite a bit of work for us on two houses. He’s very experienced and charges a fair price, IMO.
Jerry at Elite Electric Co.: (760)599-9800
Also, for drywall work, I would highly recommend Larry at (760) 622-8062.

October 17, 2011 at 5:27 PM #730872equalizerParticipantWe had Roger from Artisan Stone and Tile remove some tile and install new tile on first floor. Very good work and reasonable price. His specialty is bathroom work as you can view on his site.
We picked tile from Bedrosians and he gave us is contractor discount too. For large tile jobs make sure you get samples well in advance of the start date and make sure the final big tile order matches your sample, i.e., specify the lot. Even then you could have variations that you don’t like so if you are particular then make sure all boxes match weeks before the job is to start so you can have it fixed before the contractor shows up. Finally, make sure you order 10-15% more tile or baseboards than contractor measurements because somehow you will always be short!

We got our baseboards from Mission Moulding which has great selection.

November 27, 2011 at 11:04 AM #733462anParticipantAdding a fantastic electrician to this list. His name is Mike Ginnett. He values referal, so he will do what he can to keep you happy. He also does not nickel and dime you on all the small requests. He also install reccess lights for $40/light (part AND labor), which also include one switch. This is the best price I’ve ever seen. All of his business are from referal. His contact is:

Cell: 1-714-363-1948
E-mail: [email protected]He serve as far north as Bakersfield/Santa Barbara and as far south as the border.

Going to have to update here…Jerry is a very good, skilled electrician, but we’ve thrown a lot of work at him, and he seems to have gotten overwhelmed. Some days, he would just come in and put in a single lightbulb or move a couple of boxes around. What should have taken two weeks, at most, turned into many, many weeks.
So, I would recommend him for one or two things that you are not in a hurry for, but would not suggest using him if you have multiple items or if you want something done quickly.
Just wanted to update everyone on the latest.
December 21, 2011 at 3:15 PM #734906TicklesParticipantHi, adding to the list. I have used these guys. They do good work.
Fireplace installation, repair etc – Mike Campbell – 619-303-1848
Plumbing – Andy Bello – 858-864-2567
Any recommendations for staining kitchen cabinets? Looking for cost effective but quality work.
Thanks,

Congratulations on your new house, p-dude!
For windows, we’ve used Pelican Windows:
They always show up on time, do what they say they’re going to do, and do a good job. They seem to have a pretty good reputation from everything I’ve heard.
We’ve also had them do door/window conversions and reframing of exterior openings. Not sure if they add/remove/change interior walls, but you could ask them about it. If they don’t do it, I’m sure they’ll be able to recommend someone who can.
Best of luck!
