ParticipantRamen is delicious, but not cheap at all and definitely not good for you. If you truly want to talk about dirt cheap food, I don’t think anything can beat rice & soy sauce. If you want to splurge, add in some salted eggs. You can have a meal for around $0.25.

ParticipantNot all brands of rice are equal. It depends on the rice. I do agree with you about the cost of rice and soy sauce and unopened white rice has a very long shelf life.

You’re right, not all brands of rice are equal. However, they range between $30-40 for a 50 lb bag. One of those 50 lb bag can easily feed 2 people for at least 1/2 a year. 2 bottle of soy sauce can feed you about 1/2 a year. So, total cost for food for a a year would be ~$100.
