After a 2.5 year “break” in Austin, TX, I am most likely headed back to southern California. My new employer is in Carlsbad. Despite how much prices have changed since I sold in Dec 2006, trying to find a nice home with good schools in the Carlsbad area (San Marcos, Vista, etc.) seems to be a challenge. As an option I started looking at the southern Temecula area. Pluses – great schools, prices as low as the Austin area. Minuses – commute of over 30 miles each way.
Does anyone commute from Temecula to North San Diego County that can provide any words of advice, or maybe wish they weren’t making that drive?
I am excited about going back to SoCal, especially with home prices where they are today, but after a few years in Austin, schools and commute times are a concern.

However, I do know that the I-78 can get a crowded in the morning going east and in the evening going west.
