Commercial RE 101: Any suggestions

FYI, PHL could easily be the worst airport in the country. It is absolutely miserable! I’ve waited hours for baggage there and no one seems to care. Weather delays are common year round. People are mean there. I’ve rented cars with guarantees on a specific car and gotten there only to be told they dont have any cars let alone the one I wanted.

Also US Airways controls about 80% of the gates so fares have traditionally been very non-competitive. The best thing to happen to PHL was SWA which has made travel more reasonable on routes they compete with US Air on.

I try to fly in and out of Newark when possible. Much better airport with a train shuttle to parking/rental cars. More non-stops, cheaper fares, better in bad weather and only an extra hour drive.

BTW, Alaska Air will be flying non-stop to Honolulu and Maui as of October 1st. I booked great flights for my kids October break for $315 each!!! That is non-stop to Maui with great flight times!

Yes it was! Total for 3 tix with all fees/taxes was $1015. R/T, non-stop and great flight times (i.e. leave 9 am arrive at noon and on the return leave at 1 and arrive at 9pm). It was a screaming deal so I jumped on it as my kids are dying to go to Maui. I think it was an introductory special that had to be booked the first in week in April for travel between October and Feb but I’d expect to see good fare sales in the future also.

PHL used to be worse… My husband worked on two projects to improve the conveyors that move the baggage to baggage claim… It should be better for Terminal D and E. (USAir is Term B&C – and they did improvements about the same time.)
And terminal F will always be special to me – it was the project my husband was working on for the first year of our marriage. 😉

What I don’t like about PHL is that you have to go out of security, then back through, if you’re going between Term E and the rest of the airport. That’s super annoying if you are changing flights. (I think the same may be true for Term. A to the rest of the airport.)
