Comment spam mitigation: attempt #2 — UPDATED

I think in my Introduction thread a couple of spam type posts were made but disappeared the next day(thanks to your new system?) Anyhow, maybe it’s a “new guy” thing and the system is “learning”.

But I wouldn’t know about these things I’m just a renter…LOL Kidding

Rich, perhaps try upgrading to the “real” reCaptcha: http://recaptcha.net/. I use it on various heavily-trafficked sites and haven’t had a problem with spammers.

Thanks afx for the tip, but the issue isn’t with the captcha, it’s with the fact that I don’t want to make every single user enter a captcha every time they post because that’s a big hassle. The solution employed by the system I am using is to guess whether it’s potential spam, and to only captcha (is that a verb?) if it is. So some non-spam will get captchad (sorry), and some spam will get through — though hopefully that will decrease as the system learns.
